TRINITY PITCHER COREY LITTRELL IS TOP CANDIDATE FOR 2010 MR. BASEBALL AWARD

Trinity senior pitcher Corey Littrell is a top candidate for the Mr. Baseball award in the state of Kentucky. He hopes to become the first player from Louisville to win the award since 2008 and the seventh from the city of Louisville to win the award.
Littrell has already signed a national letter of intent with Kentucky and coach Gary Henderson, but his stock continues to rise and he could be drafted in the first or second round of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The 6’3”, 185 pound senior will lead the Shamrocks into the 2010 season looking to guide the Shamrocks to the state tournament in Lexington for the fifth time in nine seasons.
“Corey is a big reason we have been so successful these past few years,” said Coach Steve Tompkins. “His hard work and dedication to the sport of baseball is paying off. He will be a tremendous asset to the University of Kentucky and a great ambassador for their program. I know he will succeed at the next level.”
As a junior at Trinity, Littrell compiled an 8-2 record with a 0.040 ERA. He allowed just 18 runs and 38 hits while compiling a team high 93 strikeouts. Littrell also compiled 33 hits, including two home runs at the plate for the Shamrocks, hitting .375.
• Littrell is a two-time All-District selection and was named to the All-Region and All-State team as a junior. Following the 2009 season, Littrell was also selected to the Eastcoast A’s team in Lakewood, Florida. The squad was coached by Oakland A’s scout Rich Sparks.
• Littrell has also excelled in the classroom as a two-time Academic All-State selection, earning Honor Roll recognition at Trinity during each quarter of his time as a student at Trinity.
• Littrell would become the second player from Trinity to win the award. Trever Miller ’91 won the award in 1991, the third year the honor was presented.
• The 2010 season marks the 21st year that the Mr. Baseball award will be presented.
• Of the 20 past winners of the Mr. Baseball award in the state of Kentucky, 18 have been drafted in the MLB First-Year Player Draft at least once in their career, including 13 consecutive winners of the award.
