FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rocks Advance in King of the Bluegrass
Epley Registers 20 Points, 6 Rebounds in Win
FAIRDALE, Ky. –Trinity overcame a late run by Chaparral (Arizona) to claim a 66-55 win in the first round of the 2009 Canfield Development King of the Bluegrass at Fairdale High School.
Senior Taylor Epley registered a game high 20 points and added six rebounds. It marked the fifth straight game the Shamrocks had a player register 20 points or more in a game, a first for the Mike Szabo era.
Trinity advances to the quarterfinals of the event with their opponent to be determined on Friday night. The Shamrocks are making their fifth appearance in school history in the event and fourth of the Mike Szabo era. The Shamrocks finished second in the 2004 event.
Cold shooting in the second and third quarter hampered the Shamrocks ability to pull away in the contest. The Rocks made just three field goals in each of those periods, hitting just 6-of-31 shots combined.
After leading by as many 13 points in the first half, Trinity let the lead dwindle to one at 39-38 before outpacing the Firebirds 27-17 the rest of the way to claim the 11-point win.
Trinity will return to action on Saturday at 7:30p.m. against either McEacheran (Georgia) or Kentucky’s top ranked team, Holmes.
Notes
• Senior Taylor Epley was named Most Valuable Player of the game.
• Szabo used the starting lineup of Nathan Dieudonne, Charles Foster, Daniel Corbett, Taylor Epley and Josh Sewell for first time this season.
• Freshman James Quick made his career debut. He played in nine games as a freshman for Trinity’s football team, starting in each of his nine appearances.
• Quick scored his first career points in the fourth quarter with 6:43 remaining on a putback jumper.
