Probably because those are the two main things that people buy and they do it in case it gets really bad and they cant get to the store...I'd rather go out and stock up before hand then take a chance on being snowed in and need it with no way to get it.

And most people you see going out and buying the stuff are people who don't live close to a grocery store or they live in a hollow that is hectic to get out ocf when it snows...

Exactly...no need to elaborate on this. That is why everyone I know does it.

Old school tradition...I'll bet your grandparents are the first to say "we've got to go to the store and get milk and bread before the storm hit"
