Does anyone else think most of the refs this year are "subpar" or maybe dare I say getting paid? This years calls IMO and I stress IMO are terrible.Thoughts?

i think its there either getting paid or they just can't stand a school (which ever school that may be)

No, the ref's throughout the season have done a very solid job. Getting Paid? C'mon guys....
You think reffing is easy, go sign up and work your way up to a High School official. See how "EASY" it is. These guys get it wrong occasionally, but in most instances when you see the films, they are very, very good.

I totally agree with one exception. There are crews that have worked together too long and will not take a chance on stepping on a friends toes for not pulling his weight. Aside from that I totally agree. In the playoffs crews should be mixed to keep everyone on their toes.

^ I respect that. I think officials should be rewarded for playoff games. What I'm not so sure of is should new crews be made or just the better official. White hats are typically no better then their entire crew. I don't know how I feel about that, but very good point:Thumbs:

There was a crew at the JC-Cov Cath game last night they were from central ky, they done ok but when the game got close and toward the end of the game they almost decided and I didn't like that at all... They missed an unsportsmanlike call with a CCH player playin dirty to J.K. , and I'm not sure if it was a make-up call or what but they missed an obvious pass interference against JC like 3 mins later

Crew at LC vs Knox had some bad calls.

I'm willing to lay down a dollar that they made some good calls to?

I hate the horsecollar rule.

Jersey? If the jersey is stretched, they don't have the shoulder pad collar, but it is auto 15 yard flag. I hate that rule.

Tough thankless job. No one ever starts a thread when someone or crew runs a great game. One call out of 100 snaps is questioned and they are the worst people in the state.

From my understanding, I maybe wrong but the first round, they use any official that is certified by khsaa. I have seen some games that has less than 10 flags but others that have 20+ flags. I have seen games done in 2 hours and some to last almost 3 hours.
What do we want as a fan? I really doubt at this time of the year or regualr season that officials drive to a game just to cheat a kid.

Saw more than once this season where an official turned and made comments to the stands (arguing with fans). My opinion only but no place for this in high school athlethics. Crews should be mixed...

Sure, the losing teams fans will always blame the refs:eyeroll:
Winning team will always say the refs did a great job
reality is, these guys do an outstanding job. Like I said, fans are not privelaged to see the replay (in this case the game tapes). The typcial friday night fan will always say the call was "obvious". When 9 times out of 10 the ref made the right call.

Really, if an official called holding, would we be there all night for the game to be over? And if it was basketball rules, a lot of players would foul out.

I'm sure there are some bad ones out there, but the vast majority do a good job.

No one is perfect. I don't mind a blown call as much as I mind a pattern of poor or biased calls. What's really bad is not calling something obvious to compensate for the earlier bad call.

Saw two bad calls in the SV - Corbin game. Corbin used an ineleigible receiver for one td. And then when Tanner Tackett was running a kickoff, he was tackled , the whistle blew, Tanner was holding the ball to his chest while on the ground. Remeber the whistle already sounded. A Corbin get took the ball from his hands showed it to the officials that he had it . Guess what they gave it to Corbin.
And no I'm not wining because
SV dug themselves too big of a hold in the first quarter

What made the receiver inelgible?

Good post! The refs do a good job, and yes occasionally make a bad call, but how many bad calls actually cost a game? And when really bad calls are made the refs do have to answer to crew officals. I do not think most people realize this, such as after the Dixie/Cov Cath game when a bad call was made and the officials were suspended. Stop blaming the refs, human error/judgement has and will always be part of the game.

No, not always. We attended a Highlands/LexCath playoff game back in the old 3A days where the officiating was almost completely one-sided against Highlands. Highlands pulled out the win, but the whole night left a stink like a dead skunk. The only good thing was the win.

Not always. Friday in the Dupont , SK game was some of the worst I have seen. I did not think they brought their flags at first. It was almost unbearable with the calls they were missing. Some of the refs are prove why t hat systems needs fixed. $50.00 and an open bool test and any of us can become a ref. They really need to make it a little more than that.

7.
neerfan, I think the problem is they already have a short supply of officials. Im sure if they had to go to camps or more than one clinic a year a while lot of officials wouldn't do it.
