Suit charges Applebee's, Weight Watchers with fraud

Pamela Curry says she got more than she bargained for when she ordered the "Cajun Lime Tilapia" from the Weight Watchers menu at Applebee's:

More calories, more fat and more Weight Watchers "points" than the menu claimed.

The Milford woman now is suing Applebee's and Weight Watchers in what has become a nationwide battle over the accuracy of fat and calorie counts on the restaurant's light menu.

At least six lawsuits have been filed against the companies across the country since late last year, when a Scripps News investigation hired a lab to test the food and found that it contained more calories and as much as three times the fat as advertised.

Applebee’s spokesman Patrick Lenow said the lab tests are misleading because they are based on testing involving a small sample of menu items from a few locations. He said the menus acknowledged that some variation in fat and calorie content was possible.

“Trying to take a very small number and extrapolate that over a very large chain really isn’t possible,” Lenow said.

The suits accuse Applebee's and Weight Watchers of fraud, negligence, breach of contract and conspiracy to conceal the accurate nutritional information from consumers.

"Consumers had the right to expect that the defendants' products would conform to its nutritional labeling, advertising and public statements," Curry's lawsuit states. "Defendants' conduct was intentional, willful, wanton, malicious and egregious."

The class-action lawsuit seeks unspecified damages from Applebee's and Weight Watchers on behalf of thousands of consumers.

I'm pretty sure the bible tells us not to sue. When someone does something bad to you, it's best to just forgive them and go on in life than to sue.

I'm pretty sure it says not to lie too.

Where does the Bible say "not to sue"?

I believe that Paul said in Corinthians for Christians not to "go to court with" other Christians. But I'm also fairly certain that he was referring to church matters, and that courts exist for matters of this world and not pertaining to the church.

Never was aware of that verse. I looked it up and you were correct. People like to misinterpret the Bible to their own way of thinking.

Bible would probably tell us to spend more time preaching and living God's word than posting on a public forum....
