Belfry 42 - Middlesboro 21

orisonspi Wrote:Very sloppy game in a lot of aspects and if we play Friday how we played tonight then us Belfry fans will be sitting on the couch watching sports overtime show us highlights of SC vs. Russell. WAYYYYYY too many fumbles and defensive mistakes in assignments and tackling.

On a bright note when our running backs were holding onto the football they looked downright unstoppable tonight! Huge games by all three, and Phillips had a nice carry or two as well. The line was doing a great job. I also liked the fact that we kept our composure against a team that wouldn't go away... even when M-boro had all the momentum we were still the agressors.

They were stoppable on the goal line and being 2 yards out. That wasn't pretty. I think that May should have gotten that handoff and we would have been another TD up. I did like the discipline to not quit when the momentum shifted. That is a postive. It also sounded like they kept their tempers in check a few times. Another positive.

Maynard was Maynard.... he was everywhere and made some huge plays. I don't know exact stats but he returned a punt 55 yards for a TD and had TD runs of 59 and 46 yards respectively. So he prolly had 150+ total yards tonight and as always he was very consistent on defense.

Unless something drastic happens, after next week all three Belfry backs will be over the 1000 yard mark for the year. Going into the Middlesboro game Chapman had rushed for 1,029, Maynard for 829, and May for 853. May should be right at the 1,000 yard mark and Maynard around 50 or so yards away.

Also, heading into the Middlesboro game this was the Belfry backs per carry average:
Chapman- 14.9 Yards Per Carry!!!! He is also averaging a touchdown every 5.8 carries!
Maynard- 9.3 yards per carry, a touchdown every 5.2 carries!
May- 7.2 yards per carry, a touchdown every 9.8 carries.

So for every 20 carries this backfield is averaging 3 TD's!
Belfry's three backs had rushed for 2,711 yards in 11 games.... an average of 247 yards per game. As a collective group with 276 total carries they have averaged a staggering 9.8 yards per carry.

That is impressive stats. I haven't kept up with them as much as the last four years. Still impressive coming from that many underclassmen.
