Congrads to this kids but its funny to me that they cant offer the bell county kicker one and offer one the next year. It seems to me that there must be something wrong with eastern kentucky athletes the reason the big blue doesnt want to offer any.

I can't comment on Fugate, because that is a real head scratcher because he could play numerous positions. But, in terms of Merrick it is not as complex as it seems.

UK already has two kickers on scholarship this season, Sieber and Tydlacka. Had they offered Merrick that would be three scholarships devoted solely to kickers.

Take a look at nearly every BCS conference and you will find that several schools have ZERO scholarship kickers, the majority have one, and a few have two. Having three scholarships devoted solely to specialists is a complete oddity. At least now they can offer a kicker in this class and only have two scholarship kickers.

Additionally, UK already oversigned with last year's recruiting class. Nearly every SEC team takes more players then they have schollies available due to the inevitable academic casualty. The issue becomes what if they offered Merrick and when the class was all said and done they were one player over the limit. Who would you choose, a skill player or your 3rd Scholarship kicker?

To also hit on somethign else you mentioned, it is a sad reality that more often than not EKY athletes have proven to either never pan out and live up to their billing, or never even step foot on campus. Proof in point was the last great kicker to come from EKY since Merrick, Dustin Wynn of Middlesboro. This kid could have been all everything in college but he never could get on campus due to a number of reasons. It is a very sad reality, one which overshadows the accomplishments of several kids who not only made it but went on to have great D-1 careers (Couch, David Jones, Durrell White, Jeremy Caudill, Jon Olinger, Dustin Grutza, Arliss Beach, Nate McPeek, just to name a few off the top of my head).

Sieber will have to do better. He really hasn't played like he is capable of doing.

where is he from and what postion does he play?

first off netiher kicker we have right now should be on scholly cause they're so inconsistent. give one of them to a player who actuallys plays and earns it on and off the field.
