Ashland has a very proud tradition. We have 11 state championships ('28, '29, '30, '31, '32, '35, '42, '58, '67, '75, '90), 9 region championships, and 20 district championships. Many of the state championships came in the '20s and '30s. Ashland is the 9th all-time winningest school in Kentucky with 583 all-time victories according to the KHSAA. We also had 6 consecutive undefeated seasons from '26-'31 with a record of 57-0-4. We are also 7th all-time with 6 total undefeated seasons (no ties allowed). We are 7th all-time with 35 consecutive wins from '29-'31. We have the single season best average for points per game with 59.1 points per game over a 10 game schedule in '30. We are 4th all-time in rushing yards in a season 5,302 in '90. We are 3rd all-time in rushing yards per game in a season with 398.0 yards per game in '97. We hold 3rd-5th place all-time for total points allowed in a season allowing 2,6, and 6 in '27,'30, and '35 respectively.

That is a pretty strong history and tradition.

Pikeville has a good football tradition. I dont know their exact numbers of state, regional and district championships. Im sure someone on here does. But they have been a winning program for as log as I can remember and they take great pride in continuing thier winning traditon.

Pikeville, and Belfry are the two that come to mink when I think about traditional football in the mountains.

Actually Ashland has two state championships...'67, and '90.
According to the KHSAA web site Ashland was runner-up in '75 to St X.
The KHSAA didn't sanction state championships until 1959.
I agree Ashland is a traditional power though.
I'll also include Pikeville(playing since 1917)-3 state championships and Belfry-2 state titles..

The '75 state championship was an at large state championship. Until '76, the rest of the state played for a state championship in 4A and then Louisville would have their own playoff to determine the Louisville state championship. Those 2 teams would meet and have a combined state championship. I think it's kind of odd myself, but it is still considered a type of state championship.

I know the history.
I was there.
The "At Large" champion is not the state champion as far as the KHSAA is concerned. It's kind of like some schools that lay claim to a state championship during the days before a championship playoff because they were undefeated.
