56th District Tournament at Estill
#1
Boys: Estill vs Owsley Lee vs. Powell

Does anyone know the dates and times yet? Also, how is Evans playing for Owsley? With him, can they pull the upset over Estill?

BOYS 56TH DISTRICT TOURNEY @ ESTILL COUNTY
[COLOR="Blue"]7 pm Tuesday, Feb 24 -- Lee Co vs 4th Seed
7 pm Wednesday, Feb 25 -- Estill Co vs 3rd Seed

7 pm Friday, Feb 27 -- Championship game

Owsley and Powell play on Feb 16 @ Owsley to determine the 3 and 4 seed. Owsley won their earlier match-up by 1 point @ Powell, so if Powell wins by 2 or more they will be the #3 seed, otherwise (and probably) the Owls will be #3

Evans is playing for the Owls and has been contributing well, scoring 20+ in their last couple of games. (He did not play in the first 'vs Powell' game).

(The girls play beginning Monday the 23 @ Estill - a double header - and the girls championship is at 7 pm on Thursday -- all at Estill of course).

The way is see it going down is Lee beating powell in first round then Estill beating owsley and Lee taking the tourney in the end. Not saying that it will be easy for either estill or lee to make it to the end but it will be a battle for sure always is. I really think Lee will have to be ready to play and be on their game to beat estill again at Estill. All in all it would be a nice one to watch.

I look for estill and lee to coast through the first round. Then a little more exciting matchup between Estill and Lee for the championship. My gut instinct says Lee will take it without much problem. But i know Estill won;t give it up w/o a fight on their home court, this estill team has alot of talent in Crowe and Cackling. But i believe Charles, Pelfrey, and Pittman should dominate this game and take it home for lee. IMO

ummm, didn't you mean talent in Hoover and Cack? Crowe hasn't been impressive at all. Lee is very talented and it will take the Engineers running on all cylinders to pull this one off. Best of luck to all the teams!

I believe it will be Lee/Estill 3. This game could very well go either way. Estill is a quality team and in any given night could beat anyone in this region. Good Luck to beoth teams in the first round. Round 3 should be fun and if you like good basketball you will be pleased with these two teams.

Better not overlook Powell either. I remeber a few years ago Lee beat Owsley 2 times by a combined 63 points and lost in the first round of the districts to Owsley.

It's safest not to overlook anyone. I'm just thinking that Owsley may be more likely to surprise folks with Evans back. Key word = 'may'. At least the last I heard Evans is still there.

You are correct, He gave Estill a scare last year in the districts. I believe Christopher had to make a play at the end to win.

I think Owsley Could be dangerous, but have coaches in this area not heard of a Triangle and 2? The key to winning any basketball game is knowing what the opposing team does well, then take it away. By playing a Triangle and 2 on Evans and Murrell you have sealed the game. Deny Evans the ball and play in front of Murrell with the weak side help coming from the zone and opposite wing dropping mid way to cover the opposite block.

This may or may not work. But I'm betting the farm if you let Evans and Murrell get theirs you may be sitting at home while they move on.

Lee Co will be my pick to win the district. Lee has a very talented 5-6 but seems to go south after that. But, I always said during tournament time you should only go 6 deep any ways. The key to beating lee is a lot of ball pressure and keeping the ball out of the inside, This could result in easy back doors for Lee but with a team that has as much size as Lee does you have to pressure the ball. and deny the wings and try to get them out of the offensive rhythm. A team must also go to the defensive boards. If not Pittman and Pelphry will kill you.

Estill Co. should get to the finals, but will have a tougher game than people may expect from Owsley. Owsley gave them a scare late in the game at Owsley without Evans. Again the key to beating Estill would be ball pressure on Cack and Hoover. You can't let those two guys play horse, if you do it's over and there still very dangerous with the ball on the floor. The defense must make them give the ball up to someone else. I look for Crowe to be big in the district.

Powell has struggled all year and although a first round upset of Estill would heal a lot of wounds it won't cure cancer. Powell is young and in my opinion may not have the best boys on the floor at times. I don't have to give keys to beating the pirates for the past 20 teams they've played have figured it out.
