2008 Raceland Rams
#1
It arrived with nerves and it ended that way. From the Ashland game going into over time and Raceland winning 19-16, to the last game against LCA ending 27-20, the 2008 Raceland Rams gave the community something to cheer about. Sure it ended sooner than we expected and wanted, but we did beat Russell for the first time in who knows how long, we defeated Ashland for the 3rd strait year, an undefeated regular season, and won 12 games for the first time since 1926. Brett Denton and Johnscott Carver had incredible years. Tyler Boyles had another great year controlling the troops. The offensive and defensive lines controlled the line of scrimmage for the most part. The only negative thing one could say about this team? Really just the DBs. Though they were fast, physical, and smart on their coverage, they were just to dawg on small, to short. Against the run they were great, but they just had trouble covering tall WRs. The "DC Express" as they became to be known ran for nearly 2,700 yds on the season and combined for 25 tds. Boyles through for almost 1300 yds and 12 tds having only 2 interceptions, he also ran for 8 tds for a total of 20 tds. While Robby Logan terrorized offenses and the defense did well, only allowing 14 pts a game and giving up around 230 yds a game. They gave us all something to cheer for and I thank them for giving all they did this year.

To the seniors lineman, you were something special. I've never seen a better line come out of such a small school. One of the best I've ever seen period. Hold your heads up high, no you didn't get the State Championship, but you did gain 12 wins, and undefeated regular season. We've watched you grow from kids in jfl to grown men going on to greater things, some of you to football, others to basketball, others to baseball. What ever you do, remember this, be proud of who you are and what made you that way. Don't get above your raisin, keep your chin up and nose clean. Don't forget where you came from and look out for where your headin. God Bless and thanks for the memories.

To next years team. You had a great JV season, a great effort through out the year when you were in the varsity games. Use those as a good starting point. You defense rarely allowed a VARSITY offense to score. Good luck and hit the weight room hard get stronger, faster, smarter, and come out and play hard. Its your time to shine.

It still appears that if anyone in Raceland wants to get past the Regional title game they will have to goto Russell.

That trend could be in the process of changing, especially for passing QB's and WR's. It'll be interesting watching how the two teams trend over the next few years.

Congrats to Raceland on a very fine year...
