Penalties?
#1
how can the defense get a penalty called on them for blocking below the waist, i thought that is how you tackle was wrap the legs????? Johnson Central had to penalties called like that against bryan station........and another call was Ian Welch stiff armed a guy and they called a personal foul facfe mask on ian???? is that 2 new rules this year or are the refs crazy????

I believe that blocking below the waist can be called on the defense IF one defender "chops" a lead blocker in order to allow another defender to attept to tackle the runner.

Blocking below the waist on the defense is called when a defensive player attacks a non ball carrier below the waist in open field.

Facemasks can be called on the offense, running backs including during a stiffarm, if they grab and twist the head gear of the defender.

Neither of these instances were the case. There were just some terrible calls in this game. Including a phantom pass interference call on Ian Welch. The ball was thrown 5 yards past the reciever and Welch brushed his hand across the back of the recievers jersey. One of the worst officiated games I have ever witnessed.

JC Central won.

Usually you wait for a loss to complain about the officiating. Not being there I can't say for sure but I would guess that there was some basis for both the blocking below the waist and the facemask penalties.

Not necessarily complaining. Just discussing how poor the officiating was in that particular game. Not making excuses or anything. It was just an obvious thing. The officials were bad. But I also understand, it happens. If you HAD been there, you would be agreeing with everything posted in this thread.

Illegal contact below the belt is when any player hits a non carrier below the belt. Knees are a big reason to have this rule, as they are fragile joints prone to permanent damage from contact.

I could be wrong, but I believe that a stiff arm to the facemask is supposed to be ruled a facemask: a stiffarm is supposed to be delivered to the chest/shoulders, or to the helmet, but not the facemask.

I could be wrong though, I was a lineman and never had to worry about stiffarming someone. I do know that I couldn't slap them in the facemask though, but the side of the helmet was fine.

This is true.
