Ashland 47 - Pikeville 0

It isn't the same team! But anyone that follows Ashland football knows that an opening loss to Raceland by the Tomcats is not that uncommon for some reason or another. Just check the stats for the past 25 years and you'll see what I mean. It has happened several times.

Sorry, but I can't remember us scoring on Lexington Catholic.

We got to the 5 but LCHS recovered a fumble.

Ashland has a brutal game next week.(Ironton)

Ashland just kicked our tails plain and simple. It wouldve been closer had we held on to the ball but your not going to beat anybody worth anything with 11 turnovers in 2 weeks. Yes the RBs and the QB need to hang on to the ball but thats kindve of tough to do when your line just REFUSES to block and the DLs are almost taking the handoff from the QB. Our line are size and strength wise one of the biggest in 1a football but as of right now they lack the one thing that makes a good line great and a great line dominant: MENTAL TOUGHNESS. I dont blame the coaches for that because neither they or any other coach at any level can teach that. Its up to the players themselves to find it in them and until they do were gonna struggle. Even worse than that one of the best RBs to ever play at our school isnt going to last the year if he keeps getting punished like he has these first 2 games. On D we need better line play as well. Our LBs need to step it up too. All of you boys who wear maroon and call yourselves Pikeville Panthers need to listen up. Its not that Maroon jersey or that "P" on your helmet that has made this program as tradition rich as it is. Its the heart and desire that the boys who came before you displayed while wearing that jersey and those helmets is what made us great. You better man up and bring your lunch pails this week because youve got work to do.

Coaches have to accept the blame also.

Sometimes it takes a whoopin to get kids lined out. I think the Panthers will learn quite a bit from this ***kicking. Maybe some of the players may wake up and decide to give it their all every play. If not, I'm sure Copley and his staff will keep searching for someone that will.
The line on both sides of the ball has a long way to go. Fortunately, it's still early in the season. Their coaching staff has to be among the hardest working staff around, so I would say they will be working hard at getting their team better.

If...Then Wrote:From what i saw at the game the line was letting alot through, Harmon was shut down early and often. IMO that was Ashlands main priority. So pville started throwing it and got some yardage before an INT.

And yet the panthers still have Lexington Cath and Belfry under their belts.

and i think copley can still finish out the season well under his good program
Where'd you sit? I didn't catch you there.

nice game Ashland

Im sure they do but my point is that any coach can only do so much to get a player ready. The rest has to come from the players themselves.

Good coaches get the most out of their players. If Pikeville's new coach is any good, he will figure out how to do the same.

Ashamed is what they should be.

Dont you go to Paintsville?
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Good try, but I think you are thinking of me. Check your facts before you try that one again.

Keep the thread on-topic.

I think the problem is not using your personnel to match the style of football you need to play. Every offense or defense needs to be based on your strengths and weaknesses. It takes a good coach to figure this out. The last few years at Pikeville they haven't figured it out.
