Well in the first two weeks Belfry, Breathitt, Middlesboro, Prestonsburg, and Sheldon Clark have all been defeated. The Pirates, Blackcats, and Bobcats all are considerably inexperienced.
The only team who has looked impressive so far is Leslie County in my opinion. The Eagles defeated a top 15 1A team in Lynn Camp (which would probably equate to a top 25 AA team). The Eagles offense was impressive and adequate in their victory.
So now lets get some opinions:
1. Who do you all feel is the best team in the region this year?
2.How would you rank the teams right now?

Leslie County has looked the best so far but come playoff time I expect Region 4 to come down to Belfry and Prestonsburg...just my opinion.

As for me,
1. Leslie County (1-0)- AT THE TIME, the top team in the region... read in my next segment and get my true thoughts. Only team with a quality win thusfar.
2.Belfry (0-1)- Lost to a Henry Clay team who may very well be one of the top 5 or 7 teams in the state. Still managed to run for over 300 yards against them.
3. Shelby Valley (2-0)- Just win baby.... can't fault a team for being undefeated
4. Middlesboro (0-1)- Lost by one point to a sub-quality 4A school.
5. Prestonsburg (0-1)- Lost to a decent 1A team who I feel Belfry or Leslie County would have beat by at least 2-3 TD's.
6.Sheldon Clark (0-2)- Best 0-2 team on the list. Lost to 3A rival Lawrence County decisevly but played a decent Boyd County team tough.
7.Pike Central (1-0)- They haven't lost.... but if me and three of my buddies played Phelps we could make the same claim.
8. Breathitt (0-2)- They are REAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLYYYY down this year.... usually whena Breathitt team is rebuilding they at least have either a solid defense or solid offense.... this team has neither.
9. Cawood (0-2)- Not a factor.
10. Magoffin County (0-2)- Would even be blown out by Cawood. Possibly the worst team in the mountains.

As for my other opinions:
- Leslie would have to be considered the best team in the region right now, BUT by playoff time I expect them to be at least 3 touchdowns worse than Belfry and Prestonsburg. The Pirates and Blackcats have TREMENDOUS upside (Belfry much more so than Prestonsburg I feel) the Eagles have not been even in the same class as these two teams (and last year NOONE from that region including Breathitt were within three touchdowns of Belfry) and it takes ALOT of time and work to make up such a disparity. If you are a Leslie County fan then enjoy your regular season. If you are not 9-1 heading into the post season with your only loss comign at the hands of a rebuiliding Bell County team then you have not lived up to expectations. The Eagles will reach their peak by week 6 or 7,,,, then all they can do is watch the opposite district as Belfry and Pburg just get stronger and stronger week by week.
-It will be a rarity to ever see this happen, but expect Breathitt to be a complete non factor towards making noise in the playoffs. This year's Breathitt team is comparable to last year's Middlesboro team. Their best hope is to beat a Middlesboro team who has a definite lack of team speed this year before the season wears on. By playoff time Middlesboro will be possibly the best team in the district.
-Prestonsburg is extremely young,,, but I would be lying if I didn't say that their loss to Hazard was quite disappointing. This team will be a shadow of their current self come November... but until then Derossett had better hope that his team doesn't suffer blows to their confidence that could be devastating.
-If Belfry shows marked improvement this week then watch out..... after Lawrence the Pirates will breeze their way until Prestonsburg and have their confidence sky high (yes I know they play Pikeville, but the Panthers just don't have the overall team talent and depth to compete). If Belfry can survive until Ironton without suffering a loss then this team could be downright deadly. It's entirely possible that the Pirates may not reach their true peak this year with so many Sophomores playing.

right now the best team has to be leslie, but you know once everything gets settled the cream will rise to the top, im not saying leslie wont win it they very well might but its just to early in the season to give anybody the edge, once the dust settles we will see who remains standing. i think its great that everything is up in the air right now, makes for an EXCITING season!

Belfry or Leslie co. Couldnt beat this team by 2-3 tds. Because this Hazard team I think can run with anyone in East ky. I look for hazard to make it to Louisville or make it to the state semis.

Hazard won't make it to Louisville...NewCath and/or Beechwood will pound them if the Dawgs make it that far.

Was you at the game PHSFAN? Man im not joking Hazards QB is darn good and hazards recievers can catch like no other too...and has a pretty good Defense to stop Pburg from running up the gut....
