Frederick Douglass at Highlands 8/22
#1
The young Broncos begin their 2025 season with a trip to northern KY to take on one of the top teams in 4A in the Highlands Bluebirds. Both teams saw their seasons the last 2 years end in the state semifinals.

The Broncos graduated 29 seniors off of last year's 6A state semifinal team. The only have a total of 8 returning starters with just 3 starters on offense and 5 on offense.

On offense the Broncos will rely very heavily on junior running back Dakari Talbert who rushed for almost 850 yards last season in a very deep backfield he averaged 7.9 yards per carry. Their new quarterback Brady Ross will be looking towards returning TE Terry Cayson. On defense they will be led by returning defensive backs Cionne Conn and Demond Green. The Bronco defense allowed less than 17 points per game last season.

The Broncos very tough schedule especially at the front end with the first 3 games at Highlands and Trinity with a home game vs. Manuel. They also have non-district games vs. Corbin, Boyle Co. and Male. This will be tough, but Coach McPeek hopes it will help make the Broncos better by season's end.

Go Broncos!!

Early on is going to be a challenge, but I have always thought Douglass teams get better as season goes on, extremely better. Barring injuries, I dont want to play Douglass in November.

This one is also a tuff first game of the season. Maybe the game of the week in the entire state.

The 2nd week Douglass goes to Trinity and then Manuel at home in week 3. A tough 3 game stretch for sure!

I'm going with the team that back in the day, caused me some gray hairs on my head, and caused me to lose sleep at night. After all these years it's still hard to pick against Highlands  Wink

Smile I have been a Frederick Douglass fan ever since the current coach has taken over. He is my kind of guy. A players coach. They will be fine no matter the outcome. FD plays in the biggest of games and if they are young then this schedule is just going to pay dividends down the road. I read the score of the ST X game after the 1st quarter but didn't hear the final. Highlands is a mystery. I thought they were on fire last year and I read some talk after that playoff loss last year and it has me in a position hard to know which team is showing up. Highlands is a dangerous team, with no pressure they beat the socks off everyone last year, now playoffs when it counted was different. So this is a no pressure game, so its hard to know what to expect without me seeing film. But plenty of common opponents to sort who's who. I will be keeping my eye on this one because Highlands is the new 4A kid on the block and may have a say when its all said and done. Corbin, Boyle and Highlands all play FD. We will know when the creme rises to the top.

One thing is for certain about Douglass they don't duck anyone. Facing a rebuilding year, the Broncos have likely the states toughest schedule but will have to have some new faces in unproven places prove themselves and based on scrimmage play that hasn't been the case early on.

This will be a measuring stick early for the Broncos playing an experienced-loaded Highlands team. I'm going Birds 28-14.
