Trump talks about his Uncle teaching Ted Kacynski, the Unabomber, while he was a student at MIT.  The problem with this part of his story is that Kacynski never attended MIT.  Also, he claims that he and his uncle discussed Kacynski and his academic work while there.  The problem with this is that the identity of the Unabomber was not known until after Trump's Uncle had died, in addition to the fact that his uncle never taught Kacynski.

Today Trump says that he was surprised that Jerome Powell was appointed Chair of the Federal Reserve, apparently forgetting that he had actually nominated him.

Trump was the one telling the story, so I'm not sure why it struck such a nerve with you.  It's pretty simple, either he is definitely showing his age or he is lying.
