my god in heaven what a favorable draw

LOL did they let Martin Co. coach fill that out?

The left side of that bracket would be a hell of a tournament by itself.

How does it work? I thought every team was in it? Why didn't Belfry or East Ridge make it?

They lost the first play-in game. Every team in the region gets a chance to play a play-in game to make it into the tournament. Think of it like a loser's bracket. So I believe 8 teams lost in the first round of the 4 district tournaments and they all had to draw to play each other, so the 4 winners of those games gets to play one of the district runner up's at the runner up's home gym to advance to play one of the district champions in the quarter finals of the regional tournament at Pike Central.

JJ must have filled this out in his living room this morning lol. In all seriousness Martin has a cake walk to the chip and the only teams that can beat them have to all battle it out on the other side.

So Magoffin or Phelps will be in the region tournament while either Lawrence or JC will be at the house. I like the super region but unlike last year the best 8 teams in the region will not be playing. And if Martin County doesn't win the region it's their own fault. They couldn't have set up a better draw if they done it theirselves.
Doubt it will happen but I am cheering for a Pburg/Betsy Layne final after what happened last night.

The Super Region is the best thing they have ever done for equity.
Anyone who is against it explain this to me.
Pike Central girls were the 1 seed in the 60th District
Floyd Central girls were the 1 Seed in the 58th
They both lost their first game of the district
The old way FC goes home and PC plays in the region because they are in a 3 team district.
No team should ever make the region by default.
You MUST win to make the region now. Its the best its ever been and I hope boomers out here saying "back in my day" dont get their way and ruin it

I agree with all of this, but it could be better. Maybe RPI matchup the teams or seed them by record or coach vote or something in the district runner up games in the regional instead of blindly drawing the matchups. I think you would get better games and the best teams in the last 3 games that way.

People complaining about Martin Co draw should not be upset. They won the hardest district in the region and earned that draw. If Paintsville or JC won then they would have that draw. They are rewarded for winning the district. They should have the easiest path because they earned it.

Im fine with any ideas to add on. theres just no arguing this is better than allowing Pike County to always get terrible teams in because they have 3 schools in each district while everyone else is left to grind it out

Fourteen teams in the region, twelve teams make the regional. Something about that just doesn't sound correct.

In the old format Belfry doesn't play Floyd Central and East Ridge doesn't play Magoffin with a chance to advance. In the old format your 8 teams would be JC, Martin, Pburg, BL, Pikeville, Shelby Valley, Pike Central and Phelps.

Super region is here to stay. Everyone has already benefited from it that needed too. Pike county only people that against it because they aren’t guaranteed there 4 spots automatically into the tournament. All other schools in the region are for it. Everyone saying it’s a participation tournament has bumped their damn heads. Just look at this year. Pike central girls was number one seed in a three team district and made the district championship and then got beat by Phelps so in the old format they would have been in the region tournament without winning a game. That sounds like a participation tournament to me.

I think super region is the best thing that’s happened to the 15th with 2 3team districts some teams don’t even have to play to make the region while MC and JC or Painstville was playing just to make the tournament.

Every team has to play their way in to the regional tournament except for the district champions. If you lose in the 1st round of the district then you have to play two games (at least one of those on the road) to make it to the actual regional tournament quarterfinal round.
I love the super region, I just wish they would select district runner-up matchups (round 1) by RPI instead of basically drawing them from a hat. Pburg vs Paintsville should be a quarterfinal game, not a 1st round game. Magoffin vs Phelps in the 1st round should not happen. If it went by RPI then you would get better teams in the quarterfinal round creating a better regional tournament. Pburg and Paintsville both deserve to play a game at Pike Central, yet one of them won’t.

Schedule head to head with every team of the region as well. Season games matter, district title matters.

For fun -
If 12 teams were seeded 1-12 (with district winners getting seeds 1-4 and byes)….just roughed it. I didn’t check rpi.
1. Martin County (bye)
8. Pburg vs 9. LC
4. Pike Central (bye)
12. Magoffin vs 5. Paintsville
2. Pikeville (bye)
11. Phelps vs. 6. JC
3. BL (bye)
10. FC vs 7. SV

I’m personally not a fan of the super region format however, it “should” do what it was designed to do and get the best teams to the regional tournament and leave a team that was 1-7 in district play and a losing record on the season at the house.
