Congratulations to Pikeville! What a battle from both sides, Brady Johnson Fouled out with 6 Minutes left in play hurt Valley a lot.

Pikeville now has 52 district championships. That seems like a lot.

Game of the year in the 15th in my opinion. Probably the best atmosphere ive ever seen at a 59th district game. Pikeville gets the clean sweep on Valley heading into the region tourney. Overall good team win for the panthers.

Great game.
0 fouls in first half by either team
it was a battle
Valley lead most of game.
Until the 4th
11-3 foul count in favor of Pikeville in the 4th quarter
Both leading scorers fouled out for valley in the 4th with 6 min left to go and the other with 3 min left to go after hitting back to back 3s
Interesting situation to say the least

Game was too big for two of the officials. Pikeville coach talks to one of them after a call and next 8 calls go in Pikeville’s favor.

The foul count was pretty bizzare to say the least.
The officials really let them play the first three quarters and then just like ICE above me said—all of a sudden it was foul after foul on Valley.
Brady Johnson and Caden Johnson both fouled out (receiving 3 and 4 fouls IN THE FOURTH respectively) YET, Pikeville had zero players with more than two.
It pains me to see it because you just want to see every team have a real fair shake. Just because a team is “supposed” to win doesn’t mean they have to.

Obviously the foul count is gonna be bad when you’re down 5 with 40 seconds to go.
And nothing needs to be said about Pikeville’s coach talking to the ref because Shelby Valleys coach was in their ear from the tip.
Well played from both teams, hard fought battle both ways. I think other than Garrett the other two refs let it get way out of hand.

Down 5 with 40 seconds and only 2 fouls in that span. SV wasn’t fouling to put them on the line. Not saying SV wins but there is no way Pikeville only fouled 6 times the entire game and SV had their two leading scorers on the bench with 6 and 3 mins left.
The game was too big for Garrett and Austin. They aren’t ready for that level no matter how much they think they are.

I'm afraid the river is going to start rising again with all the tears flowing
02-27-2025, 01:17 AM
No tears here. Pikeville has dominated the district over the last 10 years.
Just calling it like I see it. There is a serious ranking issue with 15th regional officials. The 57th and 59th should have had the two best crews on their respective tournaments.

Does SV not have any bench players that can play at all? Why does he never sub at all? I mean SV looked a little tired by the 4th qtr and was fortunate that they have some elite shooters. Being tired seem to cause them to not get back on D and have to foul or not move their feet well defensively and have to reach. Then Johnson(23) gets 4 fouls and you just leave him in? The other Johnson(2) fouled out with just a few seconds left and it was for sure on a necessitated foul.
The last time these two teams played the SV coach just played 5 kids the entire game until 1 kid fouled out that game also in the very end.

Coach Taylor has definitely tightened up the rotation down the stretch of the season.

Pikeville took the lead ~15 seconds into the 3rd quarter, Valley took it back with 4:30 left in the 3rd, to which Pikeville took it back 10 seconds later and led the rest of the game.
Gavin Hamilton was Shelby Valley’s leading scorer last night and is for the season also, and he didn’t foul out. Brady Johnson, their fouled out with 5 minutes left and Caden Johnson fouled out with 27 seconds left.
It was a great game. Best game I have watched all season.

Everytime I see EJ coaching against SV in that gym it makes me wanna puke
Great game by both teams. Pikeville really knocked down free throws when they had to. Either team could make a run next week.

Apologies
**johnson (the #2 Johnson) picked up 4th with 3 minutes left essentially fouling him out being he picked up all of them in 4th after scoring 9 in it and committed THE ONLY foul to stop clock of the 11-3 4th with 27 seconds left.
No watched that game from a neutral perspective which was phenomenal on both sides. That can say the 4th was even called situation in any form. 11-3 and the team fouls 1 time to stop clock under a min doesn’t happen often.
The younger ref whoever pointed that out above was carrying the other two drastically, that was a correct statement. Big game like that you don’t see uneven crews often.
It’s nothing shocking there are teams in every region that are treated with a different tone. It is what it is.
Sucks for SV they have came a long way since the last few years.
No matter what Pikeville deserves the win and the congrats coached and played a great game,
But isn’t the head of officials a former Pikeville High School coach and employee for years? Rivalries never die I guess. It’s what makes the mountains special.

Isn’t there like 3/4 or 2/3 I could be mistaken guys that are “Refs of the year” in the state in the 15th?
I saw two I know on a first round game in the Martin / Paintsville game.
Why are none of those guys on a big rivalry game? Wasn’t a ton of “big games” in region on boys side last night at all.
If a ranking system in play like the 13th 14th has yearly? For post season play?
The 13th usually has a select crew that for the big ones which is good for all typically

“Shelby Valley got into foul trouble in the middle of the fourth quarter.
In the first three quarters of play, Pikeville only had two points off of free throws. In the fourth quarter, the Panthers shot 14-17 from the free throw line.”
Quote From WYMT article
Interesting for sure…..
Didn’t intentionally foul until under 40 seconds or so only 1 of those then Hamilton scored and the game was over

1. Quit fouling so much.
2. Quit crying so much.
3. SV gets another shot in the region.

I agree! Neither team is very deep. But, Pikeville played 7 players, as did Valley eventually (once the two fouled out). After checking out the rosters, it looks like Shelby Valley’s bench is filled with Freshmen. While that makes for a bright future, I’d bet that’s why the coach doesn’t sub alot. Sometimes freshmen just aren’t ready for a moment of that magnitude.

The officials from Belfry and Wheelwright and wherever the last one is from definitely wanted to see Pikeville win because everyone knows how loved Pikeville is around the area.. Lol. At Shelby Valley none the less. The foul calls were 11-3 in the 4th because SV fouled more. The better team won. I know it hurts.

When you grab jerseys and push with two hands obviously they're gonna call fouls. Don't get me wrong Pikeville definitely got away with some too but the referees in the 4th quarter called it much tighter and one team adjusted and the other did not.
