2025 Cincinnati Reds

They got Hunter Greene back from injury yesterday, and he promptly went out and completely dominated the Phillies. Their schedule is pretty loaded the rest of the way, beginning with three at home this weekend against a Brewers team that has won 12 straight and has the best record in baseball by a mile. But if they could win two of three this weekend…..

The Reds starting pitching has been stellar this season. The hitting has been a struggle for much of the season.  Three guys have made a difference lately on offense.   Spencer Steer, my favorite Reds player, is swinging a hot bat. He's a RBI machine. Very clutch hitter.  The youngster, Marte, appears to be the real deal. He has been a big spark for the offense. Also, the trade deadline acquistion, Miquel Andujar, has been that thumper they need in the middle of the lineup. He hit a grand slam last night to put the Phillies out of their misery. The Reds gave that first game of the series away in the 8th. To come back and play two really good games to close the series was pretty impressive.

Brewers coming to town on a 12-game win streak. Should be an electric atmosphere Friday night. The Brewers have been tough on the Reds the last few seasons. The time to turn that around is...NOW!!!

Reds handed the Brewers the first two games of the series and tried to give away game three but Jose Trevino and Austin Hays saved them. A loss today would have been season-devastating. Brewers' 14-game winning streak ends. Reds remain the only team in MLB to have not been swept this season.

The last I checked, didn't look like the Braves are going to make a push for the playoffs.  I'm pulling for the Reds to make it.

I agree a loss today, especially after leading 1-0 with one out in the ninth, would have been hard to mentally overcome. But they gutted this one out, and should at least be in a good mental frame of mine as they head west for a crucial nine-game road swing to face the Angels, Dodgers and D’backs. If the Mets lose in the Little League Classic tonight, the Reds would still only be a half-game out of the wild card.

In years past, the West Coast is where Reds teams have gone to die. Let's hope they are still among the baseball living when they return home from the Arizona desert a week and a half from now.

Tough, tough season for the Braves.

I would love to have 5 of 9 on this trip. 2/3 in Anaheim,  minimum of  1/3 in LA , and 2/3 in Arizona.    Win tonight and they already have the 2 in Anaheim.

Hunter Greene, who when healthy ranks right with Paul Skenes as the best young starting pitcher in baseball, is on the hill for the Reds tonight. A good chance to get a second win.

OSH, here’s a little personal story about the Angels starting outfielder Jo Adell. He went to high school at Ballard, and during my son’s career at North Laurel we were playing them in a tournament at Madison Central. It was a tight game, Ballard up 1-0 going to the 7th, and they brought Adell, who threw in the low-90 range, in to close it out. Well, we hadn’t taken our whole squad, only had three guys on the bench, and our starting second baseman got sick late in the game and had to come out. The kid who replaced him (not my son) was a good fielder, but was a freshman who at that time had never had an at-bat in a varsity game. Well, guess who’s turn to bat it was leading off the 7th? Yep, that very kid. His first ever varsity at bat, and he’s facing the hardest thrower he would ever see in his high school career. No fairy tale ending, he struck out on three pitches, although he did manage to foul tip one, which we thought was a miracle in itself. Adell was an awesome talent.
I could see Greene not being a Red in 2026.

Your story reminds me of my cousin's story about facing Don Gullet when he was in high school. My cousin bragged for years that he hit a foul ball off Gullett. He also struck out, but he was as proud of hitting, he talked about that almost every time I saw him through the years.

Well, right on cue, Greene went 6 1/3 with 12 strikeouts and no walks, and while Adell hit two solo homers, the Reds got two in the ninth to win 6-4. Still one game out of the wild card, but a great start to the road trip.
Reds completed a disastrous WC road trip with a 3-6 record. They are 4.5 games behind the Mets for the last WC. Per usual, California is where Reds teams have gone to die. Happened again.

You probably see dead people...
West Coast trips kill us. We never play well, and this was terrible timing as it seems the Mets may have regained their stride. The next 3 series are huge, playing the Cards, Jays, and Mets. After this 3-series set, we will know where we stand.
