Round 4 goes to the Bulldogs in a hard fought game.

Hazard played their B game and still pulled it out.

Bobcats seemed very uncoachable tonight to me. I don’t know how many times I seen them run down the floor with Honeycutt telling them to slow it down and they try to drive it amongst 2 or 3 or stop and shoot uncontested, off balance shots. Sperry took several out of control shots in my opinion. Wasn’t a fan of the last possession of regular play either. Can’t beat Hazard playing like that.

Past two times they played they have played breathitt has barely subbed and by end their guys are just worn out. Try something different next game bc you make those shots at the end if your guys aren’t worn out. And if you aren’t going to sub you are running out of time for more conditioning. Good game though. Whoever was guarding Kincaid shouldn’t have left him open so much. He was difference maker for them off the bench for sure. Al uses his bench guys well.

Dawgs got our number this year. Let’s hope for a 5th rematch this year and maybe a trip to Rupp on the line.

I don't care what you say, Breathitt is undisciplined. This is the second time Hazard has played poorly with Breathitt and Breathitt has yet to capitalize.
Breathitt forces an over and back with 14 seconds to go with a tie game and jacks up a 28 ft shot with Sperry shooting 30% from 3. The most athletic kid in the region with the game tied needs to get within 15 ft or closer and take a higher percentage shot. At least get the opportunity to go to the charity stripe. Then some of the other boys just shooting MJ fade aways through the lane and Steph Curry 3s.
If Breathitt wants to beat Hazard in the region they have to play pick-and-roll offense or 1 4 low and let Sperry get in the line and challenge defenders. They will either get in foul trouble or Gross/Terry will get easy layups from help defense. I wouldn't let Collins shoot a 3 unless his feet are set and Honeycutt the same.
The boys can do it but they rush and try to make too many things happen. And yes this is computer coaching but you can't disagree with these statements. Statistically shooting percentages increase the closer you get to the goal and there isn't a kid in the region that can keep Sperry in front of them. Hope the Cats put it together in Region or it will be Hazard the whole way out.
Great game otherwise. Kincaid with some big 3s. Eversole is the high school Larry Bird. Get within 10 ft and bank it in. Will be a good region tournament just hope they end up on opposite sides of the bracket and some tom foolery doesn't occur and one of them draw each other as a winner loser.

Sperry shoots 30% from the 3 ? Try.. 21.6% from the 3 and you will be right. I do not understand why coaches let him settle for 3 pointers.. that’s the shot other teams are begging him to take. If all Sperry can create is a 3 pointer then he needs to be passing it to someone else.
IMO , Breathitt’s key to success is sharing the ball , taking good shots and using their bigs.
I think we’re in for another great regional tournament !!

Most HS kids stay back at some point making most of them 19 their senior year. Sperry is no different. I am sure if we went down the list of most players you will find the same thing. Now not every player is fortunate enough to play varsity while in MS but I am sure Sperry has been able to.

I don’t see why Sperry’s age keeps coming up. Whether you hold back once or hold back twice they’re all basically the same age when they graduate. (100% LEGAL)
Isn’t Rydge Beverly a double hold back ? Go down any high school roster in the 14th region and point out what kids haven’t held back , you may be disappointed ! The girls are even starting to hold back for an extra year of sports..
Why is Sperry the only kid that gets brought up on this ?

I actually think this is the last of the super seniors as they are called. Of course now there is no difference in the ones who stay back in grade school because they will be 19. Nothing wrong with it. A player like Sperry and even Beverly along with others only seem older because they have been playing for awhile. Both of them mentioned above, along with others have been playing HS varsity since MS. Seems they have been here forever but they aren't too old to be playing.(02-19-2025, 06:53 PM)Bluecat Wrote: Most HS kids stay back at some point making most of them 19 their senior year. Took him 20 years to get it paid for. He will be 20 in sept. This is well before the next college season. For perspective, Cooper Flag is 17. Reed Shepard and that class are 20 year old this year. Do the math. Double hold back. In the end you as an assistant coach, and relative are doing this young man a disservice. He can’t shoot which will not transfer well to the next level. It’s a shooters game today. Call it jealousy or whatever. It’s just disgusting to me to see you people making a mockery out of tradition at Breathitt with this Fraud.

Sperry has been the best player in the region since his Sophmore year. Nobody has been better than him. Nobody I have ever watched in these parts has been able to do some of the things I’ve seen this kid do. He is the most explosive athlete we’ve ever had in this region. Yeah there’s been some better shooters, better passers, better rebounders but there’s never been a better athlete with his next level potential. Anyone taking smack is simply jealous of him or trying to get in his head where it’s tournament time. Very fun watching him play, gonna miss him a lot after this season.

He is definitely a generational athlete. The only kid I can recall being as athletic as him was Ben Bowling back in the day.
As far as age, no kid can play if they turn 19 before August 1st.
And any kid in the region or state will turn 19 during their senior year if they have stayed back at some point of their career.

Ok, as you requested we will mark it up to jealousy. And summer college practice starts in June. Pretty sure that’s before September. But, I’d bet the ranch you didn’t hold any of the records he broke and if you even played, I’m guessing you weren’t very good. Otherwise you would have some respect for talented kids.
Me a coach? Ha, doubt if they’d want me or have me. As far as your comparisons, so what. Who compared him to Flagg or the others? Only you.
I’ve never started a thread on here. I usually don’t post until you trash or post false stuff about kids, always Breathitt and 99% of the time Austin.

1.) It is Flagg not Flag
2.) Flagg is 18 and reclassified, he would be in senior year with his twin brother if he did not do so also being 19 when he went to college
3.) There have been a lot of really good college point guards that cannot shoot, (not say he will be a really good D1 player but there is potential.)
4.) Shooting is one part of the game you can teach, you cannot teach a 40+ inch vertical and 6'4
5.) Last but not least, I bet all of Hazard, Perry, Knott Co. players will graduate at the age of 19 that play real minutes, hold backs have always been a staple of mountain basketball and will continue to be.
