Powell @ Montgomery Co??
#1
What’s the scoop on what happened? Seen on “X” there were multiple ejections and then the entire team walked off the court and forfeited.
#2
Maybe someone could drop a livestream or something?

Which team walked off?

I guess I should have been a little more specific. LOL. Powell had the whole bench ejected and then they forfeited.

10th region X page has the video up.

Crazy. From what I saw on X, sounds like the game was pretty chippy, all the Powell bench gets ejected for leaving during a skirmish. Then later a T gets called on a Powell player, and the coach takes them all to the locker room.

Looked like to me some of the wrong players got ejected for Powell County. Ramsey and Cook were on the bench and came onto the floor, with the other players on the bench. Then when the game starts, they are 2 of the 6 left to play? Faulkner was on the floor playing, and wasn't involved at all, but he was ejected. I believe one ref went and reviewed the video, buy got some players wrong.

Judging from the videos I don’t blame Powell one bit. One sided and it’s not worth getting your players hurt. It’s always difficult to play Montgomery at Montgomery because it’s 5 vs. 8.

I guess I am in the minority when it comes to this, and I completely see it from both sides. But pulling your team from the court during a game like this is not a good look in my opinion, I'm sure I'll get some heat over that but that's how I feel. I also see it from the other side that with only 6 players left after the first confrontation, you risk players getting hurt, but you're taking that same exact risk when you have your whole team there as well, unfortunate things happen when players get hurt in any kind of scenario in basketball, but pulling your team from the court and just leave? I don't agree with that, and it's something that I've never seen before.

Another thing that doesn't surprise me is that this happened not just at Montgomery Co., but a Jason Mays coached team. Seems like everywhere he goes its trouble & controversy that follows him.

Watched the 1st half, the game was chippy and physical. Refs lost control of the game early. Don't agree with Powell coaches taking team off the court, can't be teaching these kids its ok to quit when faced with adversity.

I just wonder who was in charge of paying the electric bill at the end of the night? Wink

@OldFlow great minds think alike, asked my cousin the same thing last night when we was talking about it!  Big Grin

I don't blame Powell at all. The one kid from Montgomery was out of control. He run up to two or three players and it appeared  he threw a punch at the Powell player that run out onto the floor. Don't get me wrong, the ejections for the Powell players running out onto the floor was the correct call and ejections were warranted I feel like. Also, at the same time I feel like the officials should have got control over the game way before it escalated that far.

Pulling your team off the court after getting your ass kicked is soft as hell. You want more players available to play? Control your bench. Soft.

If what you say is true, then i think Powell should be awarded the win even walking off the court. I don’t know how many people know this, but it is A HUGE VIOLATION for a ref to look at a live replay to determine who to throw out, or make a call in the moment. A film review may be requested after the contest if that’s what you meant, but they cannot watch the replay during the game to make decisions on ejections only to review the decisions after the fact and take appropriate action after the game. I have personally been inappropriately thrown out of a game during a scuffle, and then the film was used to overturn the decision after the fact and I was not suspended for a game. However the film wasn’t shown during the game, but well after.

What did Jason Mays do?

What did Jason Mays do? Oh, you know—everything. He coaches, he recruits, he probably even bakes the team cookies, pays electric bills per HOOPFAN... and of course, when anything goes wrong, the blame somehow magically lands on his shoulders like he’s the only one who ever touched the basketball! This post takes the cake, but not just any cake—it's a triple-layer, chocolate-fudge, with sprinkles and a cherry on top kind of cake!

Why would Bandit29 say, "No shock it was a team of J. Mays involved in this type of behavior"? What has Jason "The Maestro" Mays done to the fine folks of Morehead or Fleming other than beat them on the court? Maybe Bandit29 is just jealous because Mays recruits (so-called) win like Bandit29 recruits excuses!  #BUILDITANDTHEYWILLCOME

You can catch it all on HUDL and decide for yourself—looks like some will side with Powell, others with MCHS, but at the end of the day, this one’s on the refs for their lack of control. It happens all the time, and let’s be honest, finding officials who can actually do their job is like finding a unicorn. Maybe DJT could step in and get rid of these DEI hires… but then again, he’d probably just do away with high school sports entirely to avoid all the drama.

Was this involving an appeals process?

See that’s my question, if it’s during the appeals it’s ok but that’s after the game not during.

Montgomery Co has the sleaziest coach in the state coaching them. Not sure I would have walked off the floor but I understand.
