North Oldham 61 South Laurel 46
#1
Watched this game on NFHS. South really struggles to score. N Oldham has really good guard play. 7th grader Rajon pierre Rondo is gonna be a name. Kid is so dang quick and very smart with the basketball. He is pint size right now but if he grows he will be special like his daddy. They also have a freshman austin sears (got hurt) who can stroke it. Averaging 18 ppg for NO. If south had a true PG and mabe was able to play a more natural role they would be so good. Mabe handled a lot. Rawlings is a two guard and he plays more point than they probably would prefer. South is good but can be beat in the 13th by a couple teams. I do think they are really good. Jeff Davis can coach. I do believe other teams like corbin, north and HC will compete with them again this year. Although i watched corbin on tv and they looked ho hum the last couple games. It will be fun to watch how it plays out.

Good stuff, Keystone. I love your reporting. You watch a lot more games than I do so I am always anxious to read your stuff. Keep it up. More, please.

Guard play is an issue but Mabe has to get more than 9 shot attempts(still had 18pts). Guard play is a issue but personally I say make Mabe the PG full time(had 5 assist last night)--hell I know he played Pg forever until he grew 6 inches in a summer. Put the ball in his hands let him pass or take it to the basket-even at his size I've not seen many that can stay in front of him. Imagine if he took the shot attempts others in the 13th took? Hell he would average 35 a game.

He is no doubt the best option at PG. He is such a smart player. He does need more than 9 shots. That is shocking. He is such a team guy and i cant see him ever taking 15-20 shots per game. Although i agree with you that he should. They have a lot better chance when he is dictating everything offensively.

Mabe is as important a player to his team's success as any I've seen. When Mabe was out last season, the Cards were really bad. With Mabe in the lineup they were a totally different team.

Actually just looked at KHSAA stats. Of the "better" players in the region he has taken substantially less shots. Shoots a damn good percentage, I'd make him shoot it

Truest statement I've seen in a while. Honestly I feel for them next year because my opinion is they will be in the bottom half of the region then.

Mabe is a great player and they did struggle last year without him, but I think Davis will always have a good team at South - top five pretty much every year.
