Southwestern vs North Laurel. Thoughts?

We are not going to write NL off just yet, there were a lot of circumstances beyond their control that took
them completely out of that game. After seeing JC in person, they weren't going to win that game by any
stretch however they could have made a better showing than they did on offense. They have got to do
something about their offense if they want to build a young team and win some more games. When
something isn't working guys you have got to change it for the whole team going forward you don't just
keep spinning and spinning in the same mud hole.

14-7 one way or the other. Defensive slugfest

North is not a bad team. But if you hit them back, they do not care much for it. Be interested to see who comes out on top.

There’s no right or wrong answer here but maybe the advantage goes to North because it’s a home game for them.

Both teams don’t stand a chance in a stacked 5A but gotta give it to Southwestern. They have struggled early but this is their “right the ship” game.

I follow this district because these teams are close to where I live, and I got some buddies who have kids playing for North Laurel. I am friends with Coach Nelsons Family, so I hope they get things headed in the right direction. North Laurel has a defense capable of holding a team. I do understand that a game like Johnson Central can make one think they just plum stink but that's actually not what it is. North lost a ton of talent off of last year's team for starters. Went through a complete coaching change and then had to hurriedly put everything together. They did beat Bell County on the road and Whitley County with two nice games. I just think sometimes a team when rebuilding will take it right in the mouth when you have 2 top 4 Class 4A teams on the schedule and you don't have the kinks worked out. Southwestern looks to be rebuilding as well based on the scores. I caught some of the Belfry Game and from the looks of it, they made a game of it after a slow start. But in this District lately, everything has gone through Southwestern. North needs to come out in this game and just play football and be fundamentally sound. Should be a better game than some may think. I think right now if Johnson Central played Southwestern, they probably would have had the same results. I heard some good reports even in a lopsided score with North Laurel. North has some game film that no doubt should help them down the road if looked at properly. Thats the good thing about playing quality opponents. The film tells all. Gives you everything you need for adjustments on both sides of the ball.

Can anyone confirm if McWhorter is hurt? I’ve been checking the stats and I see he’s still making a lot of tackles but I’ve been shocked to see how little he’s being used on offense. That could explain a lot of NL’s struggles if so.

We just watched some film after reading your post and like we thought from the games he did great on defense. Why he is getting so few touches on offense with his history is puzzling.

Evidently North Laurel’s head coach has nothing to do with the offensive play calling and just runs the defense. I thought that was strange, especially for a 1st year coach.(09-25-2024, 09:40 PM)ColonelCrew Wrote: Can anyone confirm if McWhorter is hurt?
