Szabo was not on the bench for Trinity (health). Lexington Catholic shot lights out-- over 45% from three. Knights led 21-14 after the first and led by 8 at the half.

Trinity has more top end talent (especially with the kids they brought in from Western), so I was a little surprised that this one would go down like this, but without Szabo, I'm not surprised either.

I’m not surprised with or without Szabo. You said it yourself. LC shot lights out from 3’s at 45%. One player couldn’t have stop that.

Catholic is my favorite to win the 11th. I know Great Crossing defeated them earlier but Catholic had two starters out along with their top rebounder. This is one of the better Catholic teams that I have seen play in a very long time.

Trinity was without Julius Edmonds as well. That's a very big loss.

I don't think that Lexington Catholic is bad by any means, but I do see them as a team with a ceiling (much like Lyon County). They certainly aren't bad teams, but you see limits on what they're able to do. On the flip side, they're very steady, well-coached, and typically play within themselves, so you more or less know what you'll get.

If they are as good as some of the Lexington Catholic teams from the late 90's to early 2000's, everyone should be on notice. I've always felt that the best Lexington Catholic teams have always had at least one really high level player (like a Vee Sanford, Shawn Fields, David Graves, or Demetrius Green) with other really good players cast around them. I'm not sure that they have that type of overall talent this season.

Teams who play man typically have an easier time going zone than teams who play zone have going man. With the amount of zone that they'll need to play against top teams, rebounding may be an issue. Going cold and having trouble making shots means you aren't setting up your pressure. That could make for a long night against teams who can try to force Doyle to physically take over the game against a defender who is a next-level athlete.
