Belfry will likely pull things together and win this game being at home, but it sure won't be easy. This is probably the best 1st round playoff matchup in the state. Russell is undoubtedly the best 2-8 team in the state while Belfry's 5-5 record is more indicative of who they really are this season. It will be the closest Russell-Belfry game since 2005. The winner of this one has a real chance the following week in Putnam Stadium as well.

Going with Russell in an upset; possibly a last second field goal.

It’s wild to think a 2-8 team could win at Belfry in the playoffs but we could see just that. Russell isn’t a bad team and have all of the pieces to pull it off. That being said, Russell has struggled in close games this year and hasn’t been able to find a way to win when the game is decided by a score. I’ll take the Pirates at home in a hard fought game.

Belfry 28
Russell 17

Belfry but Russell is playing better football now

Belfry 30 Russell 14. This game is won on the line scrimmage.

As stated above this could be the best round 1 playoff game in the state.

I just can't pick against Belfry at home in the playoffs though, I'll take Belfry 35-20.

Belfry Rolls....

Russell has lost a lot of close games but have shown glimpses of a team capable of upsetting Belfry on the road. I am picking Belfry to win what could be a very close game but if Russell plays as well as they did in a loss to Wheelersburg, it could be a long night for the Pirates.

I like the Pirates, but Belfry better bring their A game. Russell is much better than their record indicates and is very capable of winning this game.

I'll take Belfry, 28-14.

It’s crazy to even think Belfry could lose a 1st round game.

Is the QB and Coach Haywood out?
#15
I'm gonna go with Belfry 28-14

Belfry comes out and plays with a little more purpose on Friday night. I am confident that Belfry will come out and be able to control the line of scrimmage so if they can take care of the ball, they roll. If Belfry isn't able to take care of the ball it could be a rough night.

Belfry - 35
Russell - 14

This is the first time in a long time Belfry fans have actually have to worry about a first round playoff opponent. Russell much better than their record and would be the 3rd best team easily in Belfry’s district. Can someone let me know when the last time Belfry lost in round 1 of the playoffs? I can not remember that ever happening. Ultimately I think Belfry wins in a fairly competitive game 35-20

Belfry is usually money in these games but this could be a dogfight

Belfry 28

So many questions need to be answered. Is Belfry’s coach able to attend practice this week? Is Belfry’s QB able to play? Is Russell tough enough to make this a game ? Belfry at full strength wins this easily. Idk this is a tough one to call

I think the Pirates will take care of this one before the half. If Haywood isn't on the sidelines, I am very confident that his assistants (most of them played under him) are more than capable of filling in.

The Belfry playbook isn't very deep, as you all know they pretty much go through a handful of plays and everyone knows what's coming, sometimes they just can't stop it.

Praying everyone stays injury free and all fans from Russell have a safe trip down and back home Friday Night.

God Bless and GO BELFRY!!

Driving for the winning FG against 5A Boone County, Russell fumbles the snap and loses by 2.

Driving to go up 14-0 against the 1A number 2 ranked Raceland team, Russell throws an interception in the end zone that completely turns the game. Russell subsequently quits and gets blown out.

Tied with Ohio power Wheelersburg in the final minutes, Russell gives up a TD drive to lose by 7.

After leading 7-0 after 1 quarter over Lawrence County, things go sideways for Russell with 2 interceptions, a pick six, a fumble, and a "soft" defense according to their coach. They quit and get blown out.

Russell fumbles at the goal line on the next to last play of the game to lose at 5A Montgomery by 4.

Russell is driving for the tying or winning score late in the 4th but comes up inches short on 4th down inside the 10 to lose to a 5-5 6A Dunbar team.

Russell goes for 2 to win the game against Greenup County after scoring late in the 4th. The pass is incomplete in the end zone and they lose by 1.

Russell is driving for the winning score late in the 4th at Putnam Stadium but throws an interception ending the game.

You couldn't make up a season like Russell has had. Belfry better come to play because I foresee a Russell team looking for redemption for what has been a season best described as a "series of unfortunate events".
