Shelby Valley 7, Pikeville 3 (59th District Championship)
#1
HUGE win for the Wildcats tonight!

Valley's Jackson Wierwille (and brand-new UPike signee) pitched a whale of a game tonight, holding the Panthers to just 2 earned runs in a 7-inning complete game. The offense got the big hits when it mattered the most, and the defense was amazing most of the night.

Play of the game had to be the leaping catch in deep right field in the bottom of the fourth. Robbed Pikeville's Jackson Hensley of at least a 2-run triple, and with his speed he might have scored as well if it wasn't caught. Difference in a 5-2 lead instead of possibly a 5-5 tie. Just a huge play.

Valley has certainly taken some bumps this year, but that is expected when you start 4 freshmen. This win, combined with Valley winning the county tournament last year in middle school, would seem to indicate that the future is bright for the Wildcats.

Congrats to Shelby Valley on the win.

Pikeville has 24 players on their current roster coming back next year plus the middle school just won the county tournament. Also didn't have their ace pitcher all year (out with injury) and he will be back the next three years. I look for Pikeville to get back to normal next year and go on another long run of district titles and compete for the regional title every year.

Hopefully Pikeville's right fielder is ok. He apparently caught a ball to the face off a nasty hop during the game last night. Ended up coming out of the game but I don't know if he had to go to the ER or not.

Brutal loss

^Yes, but Wierwille is stud on the mound and will be dangerous in the regional tournament. If you would come down to Mouthcard and talk sports with the boys you would know that.
