Huntington (WV) 17 Belfry 9

Hound05 Wrote:Oh I’m not arguing with you on size. You’re absolutely right. Their front lines were huge!!! But the comment said belfry won’t face another team that talented. Which- if they make it far enough- just isn’t true. I’ll be the first to tell you I under estimated Boyle last year. I thought after we beat central it was ours for the taking. I won’t do that again. Boyle’s skill players are just that, SKILLED. From top to bottom. While BC might not have the size Huntington has, they are more talented. But this is why we posts, to share opinions. No one has to agree with me, but I believe it is 100% true. We had a super fast defense last year, but their WR’s were just as fast if not faster and disciplined. So while belfry might not face a team that BIG, they will face more talented teams.

I think we agree. Boyle would be more talented. HHS passes the eye test with anyone Belfry has played the last 15 years and I have seen them all. Henry Clay, Midland, JC, and Knoxville Catholic come to mind along with a couple of the best Central teams. But if you eyeball the teams last night it would not have been close. The fact BHS kept it withing a TD and conversion and had the ball last with a chance says a lot about the toughness of the Belfry kids. Once Belfry matches up with most of the rest of their schedule, it will be good to see what they can really do. A 2 soph 2 junior backfield bodes well for later this year and next year.

Kinda surprised by this one, especially with it being played @ Belfry.

Does belfry run the 3-4? And have they always?

We do. Not for sure how long, but been awhile. Normally our personnel is suited for it last two years not as much lol.
#35
Not sure how Boyle keeps showing up in these threads.

Belfry played hard but will be a lot better come November.

Yea very rarely do you see HS teams with the personnel to run it as it’s designed. You’re starting see it more now days but I don’t know how effective it really is for them compared to a 4-4 or 5-2. You’ve got to have a solid NT and 2 big DE’s that can also help contain the outside. That alone is rare, on top of your two OLB’s that have enough skill to play it with both pass and run responsibilities.

I actually think it worked pretty well against HHS from what I saw. You could have put 9 on the defensive line, and with the Oline Huntington had they would still get at least 3 yds a carry. So making their line come up field a little to block makes it harder on them. Belfrys LB’s also did well shedding those blocks which also impressed me a lot about belfry.

To be honest I was looking and they run a 5-2 but they walk their ends off so much that the look is almost always 3-4.

The Lbs played well no doubt.

Rewatching this game and the Belfry linebackers show some promise. If you had the 2016 front 3 in front of them...

Btw, BRAVO to WYMT for allowing streaming replays of the games!

If they played today, Boyle beats Belfry by 21. If they play in 2 months from now, Boyle beats Belfry by 35. If they play next year, Boyle wins by 4 TDs. This is a case of "waiting it out" for teams in 3A, most likely. And Boyle has a hell of a young class coming up as well. Corbin does too, I know this. Of course both with be 4A, Belfry will still be that "small town", with nearly 90 kids on the roster, and they'll be the bully on the block in the East, with Louisville Central remaining the bully on the block in the West. Last year ETown would have beaten either team, but they didn't get the fanfare on here.

These type games make you better come November. Taking a loss in August is not a bad thing.

Any time one of the "big guys" in a class get beat is great fun. Then those "average" teams maybe get at least a little more state notice. I really felt like last year Etown was just an after thought. That was, bar none, IMO, the 2nd best team in 3A. Unfortunately that great group of seniors had to go through Boyle to get to the championship.

Hard not to be excited about Mounts-Cook-Barker-Fields after this one.

Mounts was an animal... teams with normal sized lines aren’t going to want to run the football on Belfry. Those 4 LBs plus Coleman coming up on the run makes them tough!

Man....someone is still butt hurt over something....don’t know what.😳😳😳 BTW....Central will be 4A next year. CAL and DeSales will be 3A. Belfry doesnt have “90” on their roster....they have “62” active players. Hope that makes you feel better. You should change your name to Jimmy “The Greek”. Let’s see if your predictions come true. 🤡🤡🤡

E-town Had they’re opportunities. Just like everyone else. Not only last year, but the prior years as well. Some get it done, some don’t

Smoke was correct about Etown last year.

They were the best team Boyle played all year including Danville....without question.

That may be very well true FoSho but he still hasn’t come up with those wins against you guys he said he had or at least not that I have read. The part about Etown I wasn’t doubting because I don’t know much about them

Hey...it happens. Believe me, in 2003 and 2004 Prestobsburg was the best team Belfry played in both years...and that includes Runner-up E-town in 03 and Owensboro catholic in 04. That’s football

Because Belfry is always looking for a state championship and Boyle is in their class and a high mountain to climb? duh

I get it, I was just confirming to Smoke that his assumptions were correct about Etown.
