SEKC Awards
#1
I found it interesting that Knox Central had 6 players named to the All SEKC team, including having the Player of the Year and the Coach of the year while
Corbin only had 2 players chosen.

Pretty interesting to have 6 players nominated.. and have the best coach in the region and not win the region.. 🤷🏻*♂️

What's really interesting is continuing on with a fictitious conference awards ceremony.

Don't forget that they also has the player of the year. So they had the best player in the region, best team in the region, and best coach in the region, but didn't win the region. Didn't even make the championship game. The sports writers in this region are worse than the refs.

Also true! Confused why teams pay to be in a made-up conference that gives awards out when it seems pretty clear you're being shafted.

The coaches use to nominate their players and the coaches also voted on the players. I believe your regular season conference record determines number of players you can nominate. District and region tourney has no bearing on conference standings.

Outside of the Sherman guy form the News Journal, the tri-county sports writers are a joke. All the Times Tribune is worried about is the Laurel County teams and their sports guy is only concerned about publicity for his daughter.

As a sports writer in the region for 30-plus years I can say without hesitation that sports writers have nothing to do with picking the All-SEKC team.

You do a great job covering teams that are local to you. Always enjoy reading your stuff. Wish you were in the tri-county area.

He does well. The SEKC is a sham. The whole premise that you have a conference champ who could conceivably not play anyone in the conference is ridiculous.

I'm not sure what happened this year, but I think the SEKC is generally a good way for student/athletes to receive an honor. Taylor was clearly the best player this year, at least to me, but sometimes that sort of thing happens. I remember when Phil Cox was Mr. Basketball in 81 and was co-player of the year in the old Cumberland Valley Conference.
I think it might be better to let the sports writers pick it. We're used to making people mad. I think we have some good writers in the region. Les Dixon works really hard and provided a tremendous amount of coverage for a guy, like me, who has two jobs. Mitch Howard has been very good for a long time. Wade Holland is back in the region, at Barbourville, and will be the best they've had there in a while, and Anthony Cloud does a good job at Middlesboro.

Then I stand corrected and apologize for falsely accusing the sports writers.

The blame falls on one person only YOUR COACH. They do nothing more than pick SEKC. Each coach picks his own players.

Just when I think you are being a smart alec, you go and do something like this.

Way to stand up!!

I've been to a few SEKC award ceremonies and I was very impressed with everything they did...I don't pretend to even know who is involved with it, but I give the SEKC two thumbs up...

According to the paper, Bell County only had 2. Which we ended the year poorly, but Id figured we'd get some more on there.
