If HHS is going to play kids both ways. They better do it starting with game #1. If they get into the season and see to be competitive they need players to go both ways. And pull players that had been playing. They will open up a whole new can of worms that could get very ugly. The Parents!!!!

100% other nky football programs have drastically improved. No way around that. Not to mention, highlands isnât getting the out of district talent they once enjoyed. Times have changed. The birds will undoubtedly have success in the future but the historic run is over and likely never to be repeated.
Some of you try and read way too much into things which is quite hysterical. Nowhere did anyone say the "historic" run as you put it would be repeated. Not sure it is going to be repeated by anyone in the near future. The issues within the program have resulted in many issues, none of which have anything to do with wins and losses. I personally believe that you will see some very drastic changes in that area this year. Will it result in more wins or a state championship? Doubtful, but that is what most people close to the program are and were upset about.

How many state titles does Ryle have?

How many 6a schools not named Trinity, St. x have titles? Playing with the big boys is a whole different ball game when you have to go through Jefferson county to get one. You just worry about trying to beat your LITTLE country county schools. When you start knocking off big schools let me know, cause right now you ain't doing shit. Be lucky to beat Cooper or Campbell. Old dusty trophies don't win games. Just like the old glory days stories they are faded, dirty and irrelevant. Your just mad you can't import superstars anymore to get you trophies. Those kids are staying at home. I keep hearing about how good HHS is but I've had one kid go through Ryle never lost to you at any level. The second kid is 1-0. GOOD LUCK. Last time a bunch of posters started talking smack you got a running clock put on you with 9 minutes left in the second quarter. Lose to Cooper and you'll start the season 0-7. You want to talk about old trophies. Try getting back to having a winning season. Going to have to downgrade that schedule cream puff.

Alright pump the breaks a bit man. Ryle has come a long and is looking good. In a vacuum a school Ryle's size should beat a team Highlands size 9 times out of 10. So now that the math has caught up don't beat your chest because it's really kind of like finally beating your little brother in arm-wrestling after 10tries.
To your point though it really isn't fair to compare state championships because Ryle is a young school and like you say it really isn't fair with monsters like T and X out there. And I'm not a big fan of saying things aren't fair but it isn't at all. It's almost impossible.
You are also correct in that kids don't gravitate to Highlands anymore. Highlands hasn't ever recruited at all, kids/parents showed up to win. Now all the other programs are running at the same intensity as Highlands so that has balanced things out as well. Especially Ryle, for instance Tanner Morgan was an import, who was a big reason for some resent success.
Chisolm was a magical running back. The game last year would have been considerably closer without that young man. Ryle's QB was really good at managing the game and taking what was given due to Chisolm's skill.
I think this year's game between Ryle and Highlands will be a close one.

Qb play for Ryle will be more dynamic than last year and we still have a really good RB. Expect a monster year from both. You're right the game should be a good one this year. This is the best HHS team in a few years.

So tell us more, I like a good story. So were you being actively pursued or just on the team with other guys that were? Also, who exactly was it that was watching you?

Tanner was always going to be a Ryle student and was before his grandfather became ill and the family relocated to Hazard to take care of him. Tanner was our 8th gr QB and 9th Gr qb in the same year. ( his 8th gr year) I was told they were the only ones who could at that time. Once that situation resolved itself They moved back to Ryle where the family had always wanted to be. So the word import is not 100% accurate more like he was on loan to Hazard! We actually lost him for 2 seasons. You also don't get to say, well without your star athlete " Chisolm" we could have won or the game would be closer. That's like me saying well without your defense we could have scored more. That is an invalid statement... just sayin'

It is what it is man. Own it and move on. Not a big deal from my estimation, I just donât understand why so many attempt to deny reality.

I am calling a big ole bunch of nothing on that front based on your lack of response. If you are going to make an accusation at least be big enough to stand behind it and state the FACTS as you know them or more likely how you "heard" about them.
I guess the same went on with CovCath when Mitchell, Stowers and others showed up there out of the Boone County Pewee Football League?
The stuff of what you speak of was kids desire to play for a winner and that attracts kids to programs. Happening right now in NKY with CovCath and Cooper basketball and to a lesser degree Highlands baseball. You are correct in that it is what it is.

Looking forward to a new season and hopefully a new game plan on both sides of the ball for the Birds this year. Some of the kids should be playing nearly every down and if they do, I expect things will begin to look much better, very quickly in Caketown.

Sure. Sure. Iâm not elaborating because itâs not necessary. Plain and simple. I played high school with two players that were sought after by highlands coaches. They ended up not attending highlands obviously. Your analogy is slightly askew. Cov cath can draw from anywhere really. Beechwood would be a better comparison and they did much of the same. Kinda funny that stowers and Mitchell ended up at highlands no? Again, I couldnât possibly care less....but it most certainly happened quite frequently.

If Highlands does play some kids both ways. No doubt they will be better. But there were coaching bluffers throughout the season. That can’t happen. I know of at LEAST 2 games they lost due to poor coaching
08-02-2018, 02:14 PM
Well well. I heard Highlands might play some players both ways. Didn’t I say that half way through the 2015 season??? Did it take him that long to figure that out? But I don’t care who he plays. Coaching in the 4th quarter last year cost them 2 or 3 games. You can’t have coaching blunders!!! Young men will make mistakes. But coaches must be able to control the game with adjustments. If a kid can’t perform time and time again. He comes out. And play more kids both ways. If it means winning or loosing the game in the 4th quarter. You have to have Plan B. Hoping to outscore people like a track meet isn’t how you coach. Example in 2013. Winning a game 71 to 69.

There were at least 2 games that were determined by poor play calling/poor strategy by the Offensive Coordinator last season. How he is still in that position is mind boggling.
