(6) UPIKE 91 Cumberland 83
#1
LEBANON, Tenn. -- Michael Chambers scored a career-best 27 points and the sixth-ranked University of Pikeville men's basketball team went 12-for-12 from the field over the last 10 minutes to pull off a 91-83 comeback win over Cumberland on Saturday.

Chambers made four 3-pointers and hit all nine of his free throws and literally threw himself on the floor late in the game to help preserve the win. Darrion Leslie added 17 points and Jayvian Delacruz had 12 points and eight rebounds as both teams shot right at 55 percent from the field.

Diondrey Holt Jr. paced Cumberland (10-14, 3-7 MSC) with 18 points and Andrew Rogan had 17 with five 3-pointers.

With Ty Sean Powell attacking the rim and Rogan on fire from deep, the Bears had a lot to contend with on the defensive end. Add in a big, early deficit and the narrative was set for UPIKE to be in comeback mode the rest of the way.

The end of that story was heroic play from guys like Chambers and Chase Parsley and an incredible run of makes from the field to give UPIKE (24-2, 8-2 MSC) a seven-game winning streak that includes wins over every Mid-South Conference team.

Cumberland shot out to a 10-2 lead to open the game and the Bears were in recovery mode for the rest of the half. They were still down eight with 8:14 on the clock before the Phoenix went on a quick 6-0 run ending with a 3 by Rogan to make it 36-22.

Parsley got himself free in the paint for a teardrop jumper that made it a 10-point game with 5:43 left until halftime, but this time a 7-0 Cumberland run followed, putting the gap at 17 points two minutes later.

After falling behind by as many as 19 points, UPIKE helped its chances at a comeback by scoring the last four points of the half on buckets from Jordan Perry and Da'Rell Domineck to make it 51-36 at the break.

UPIKE trailed by 17 early in the second half when it went on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to single digits for the first time since it was 30-22 at the 8:14 mark of the first half.

By the time Parsley knocked down a deep jumper and triple, followed by a tough inside bucket by Leslie, it was suddenly just a two-point game with six minutes to play.

A rare miss from 3 by Rogan followed on the next trip and Chambers went the distance off a pass from Leslie to tie things up. Less than a minute later Chambers was still feeling it when he stroked the go-ahead basket, giving UPIKE its first lead at 76-74.

UPIKE never gave that lead up, instead outscoring Cumberland 15-9 the rest of the way to hold on for the eight-point win.
