#1
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The 23rd-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to take down the Maryland Terrapins in dramatic fashion, 68-67, on Monday night (Jan. 15) at Crisler Center. It was a special night for senior Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman as he sealed the win for the Maize and Blue with two free throws with 1.2 seconds left to reach 1,000 career points exactly.

Nine Michigan players scored in the win, including double figures from junior Moritz Wagner (18) and freshman Jordan Poole (11). Wagner recorded his fourth double-double of the season, grabbing 11 rebounds, and matched his career high in three-pointers (4). Tonight's game marked Poole's seventh scoring in double figures this season.

A layup by sophomore Zavier Simpson with 25 seconds left in the game gave U-M a five-point edge, 66-61. The Terrapins, however, responded with back-to-back threes, the second from Kevin Huerter with only three seconds remaining in the game.

After a U-M timeout, the Wolverines inbounded the ball under the Terrapins' basket and freshman Isaiah Livers made a laser of a pass to Abdur-Rahkman across midcourt. The senior captain was fouled as he drove hard to the basket with 1.2 seconds to go. With the Wolverines in the double-bonus, Abdur-Rahkman stepped to the line and coolly sank two free throws to record his 1,000th career point and the win for Michigan.

The Wolverines completely erased their 10-point halftime deficit within the first three minutes of the second half to make it 30-all. The 10-0 run began with back to back jumpers from junior Charles Matthews and Livers, followed by an offensive foul from Maryland to get Crisler Center on its feet. Wagner then hit a three, which forced a Maryland timeout, and then a three-point play from Simpson made it 30-30 at 16:58.

The Terrapins battled back, using a 7-0 run to take a 37-30 lead with 15:02 remaining. The lead did not last for long, as the Wolverines became lethal from beyond the arc, going 7-for-7 in a five-minute span to take a 52-47 lead with 9:42 to go. Poole (3), Wagner (2), Livers and senior Duncan Robinson all recorded threes in the run.

After a Maryland bucket, Michigan put together a 7-0 run to take a 10-point lead, 59-49, at the 5:50 mark -- its largest of the game. The Terrapins responded with five straight points to cut Michigan's lead to five, 59-54, with 3:49 remaining.

U-M shot 50 percent from the field in the second half (16-for-32), including 53 percent from beyond the arc (9-for-17).

Early in the first half, Maryland used a 14-3 run over 6:23 to gain an 18-7 edge over the Maize and Blue at 11:37. Sophomore Jon Teske and Robinson broke up the run with a layup and triple, respectively, to cut the Terrapins' lead to six. Maryland grew its lead to double digits with an 8-0 run to make it 26-12 with 6:09 remaining in the half. U-M outscored the Terrapins 8-4 in the final six minutes, cutting the deficit to 10, 30-20, after the first 20 minutes of play.

Overall, Michigan forced 12 turnovers and outscored the Terrapins 18-3 in points off turnovers. The Wolverines matched a season low with only six turnovers, marking their eighth game this season with single-digit turnovers. The Maize and Blue got 24 points from its bench, while Maryland had just eight.

Despite trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half, U-M overcame its largest halftime deficit of the season that resulted in a win (10 points). The Wolverines are now 10-1 at home this season with five home games remaining in the regular season.
