Private School Transfer Question
#1
Serious question...What are the rules dealing with an athlete wanting to leave a public school to attend a private school in Lexington? Curious if a student athlete lives in Scott County, Clark County, Woodford County or Jessamine County and actually moved to the district where the private school is located, would they still have to sit out one year before participating in athletics. Are the rules the same of different? Thanks for any input.

Thats a question people from Paintsville should be able to help you with they get transfers in every year and they don't have to sit out

Transfer rules are same for private and public.
#4
Central gets them ever year also and don't have to sit out

Wasn't your QB a transfer? Oh wait, that's right, people only care about Paintsville transfers now because they are winning. Nobody cared about all the transfers when they were losing

Paintsville knows how to win with transfers now that is funny.

That's the only way they will beat LC next year is if they get transfers. They sure keep it rolling every year. We will be playing the same kids I used to watch play in the Johnson County little league.

I've posted the rosters on here before of our teams before Chirico took over, 50% of those rosters were kids who attended a county school at some point. Never heard any garbage about recruiting or crying about kids transferring then.

LC is gonna be tough. I've said it since they hired Short, he would get them back to their winning ways.

As far as transfers go, LC benefited from quite a few transfers from Paintsville back in the Chuke era.

Yes we did, I played for the man. I know alittle about it but to say we had 10 to 12 transfers just isn't true.

To go back to the original question.... I am no expert on this but from previous postings I was lead to believe that if a student has not played at the varsity level they can transfer and play the following year. If they have played varsity they have to sit out one year. Can someone provide any insight on this?

KHSAA website explains all of this

Johnson Central has transfers. Almost everyone has transfers.

Only thing I will add

I was always under the impression that if you make a bonafide change of address (after playing varsity the previous year) you are eligible to play the next year.

If no change of address then you must sit out one season.

I know that Paintsville's roster last year (2016) on KHSAA.org had 48 players and 17 went to either Johnson County elementary, middle or high schools. I looked at the roster from 2012 on the same website, which was the year before Cherico arrived, and to the best of my knowledge 4 of the 24 on the roster fell into this category.

There were 12 transfers on that roster. 12 out of 24 players, that's 50%. A team that went 2-9 (3-8 due the forfeit of Fairview). They went 2-9 with 50% of the roster being transfers. Which brings me to my point, NOBODY cared or said a word about Paintsville transfers then, because they were LOSING.

I know Gabe went to Porter, Luke to Meade, Blake to Johnson County Middle and Mark to Johnson County Middle. Who were the other 8?

Transfers from other schools. I noticed earlier that I said 50% went to JC schools. I meant other schools in general. But yes, there were 12 transfers on that roster, not just kids who attended a school in Johnson County

It's the sleazy way that they are bringing kids in that's upsetting everyone, not the win/loss column.

At the end of the day, every single kid on the roster either started before varsity or actually moved to a different district. Maybe some parents and kids really like the way Chirico and staff is doing things and want to be a part of it. Call it what you will, but parents make the final decision on where to send their kids to school. Parents and Kids are looking for something else,, maybe that their current school doesn't have. Maybe it's because a coach or coaches actually care about making their boys become better men and they want to be a part of something greater.

It's crazy how many different threads this same back and forth about Paintsville transfers has been brought into.

First of all if you move and you do not say," it is so he can play football here," he is eligible. Second, here is the rub for most, private schools have no district lines. You are in their district if you are 100 miles away. Coming out of 8th grade anyone can go anywhere and play. It is very simple to get kids eligible. Move and say , "Education is better", and he is suiting up within 2 weeks.

What about an Ohio to Kentucky transfer?

If there is a bonafide change of address they are immediately eligible.
