Lawrence County plates at least 1 run in each inning, Bailey goes the distance giving up one unearned run in the 1st.

This blows me away. Great job by the Bailey kid. Sounds like he pitched a great game. However, how in the world are these guys already ready to be throwing complete games? ITS STILL MARCH!!! It is even more baffling considering the score. There was absolutely no reason for this kid to throw that much in this game. Sounds like it would have been a great game to get everyone some work on the hill. If a 14-17 year old kid is throwing more than 50-60 pitches in March then something is really wrong. It's not just one team though. It seems to be happening a lot in the eastern part of the state. I have seen about 10 games so far this year in the Lexington area, and I haven't seen a team throw less than 3-pitchers in any of those games, regardless of what the score was. I just don't understand the necessity of throwing a kid that much that early.

Stop it. Oh please, STOP IT! Do you know how many pitches he even threw? If he was under 100 pitches, no big deal. Unlike some programs, LC starts their pitchers throwing a program in the winter to have them conditioned for spring. And they follow a specifically designed pitch count depending on the pitcher, his arm makeup, build, etc. They throw simulated games to hitters in the winter in the cages to build up their stamina. My kid went through this program, so I know.
LC is also resting guys early on that will throw later because they haven't built up enough arm stamina or strength. This kid went through that last year. This year he's bigger and stronger and has responded. He's a senior, not some 14-17 year old kid. Have you seen this kid? He's built pretty solid.
As for the score, it is only surprising that it happened in the 16th region. Usually they don't like it when a 15th region team comes up there and usually will not allow for it to get that bad. And when I say "they", I'm not talking about the other team......if you know what I mean.

There was a college scout there that came a long way to see him pitch, he threw about 100 pitches. The score was 14 to 1 but Lc got 4 runs in the 5th an 5 in the 6th. The most impressive thing about austin is he has went the distance his last 2 starts and struck out the side each time to end the game. The kid just gets stronger and stronger as the game goes on.

Each person is different. Some are ready to throw 100 pitches in March, and some are not. Some programs prepare players for this, and some do not. Those looking in from the outside, fans and parents, make rash judgments without knowing the information at hand. I've been guilty of this myself at times when my kid played. But in the end, I trusted the coaches at LC because I believe they do what's best for the kids.
As for the game, and seeing that Russell took it to Ashland the next night, that's even more impressive for the Bailey kid to do what he did to that lineup. He must have been throwing pretty hard Monday night. Wish I could have made the trip to see it.

If you think a teenage kid is ready to throw 100 pitches in March then I hope you are far from the game, even though we know you're not. I don't care if you started them throwing in October, it's not the same as game speed, on the mound pitching. Which brings me to my other point, if these kids are throwing simulated games in the winter then it's in worse shape then I thought. I know you play play fall ball. So when is their rest time? These are teenage kids who are still growing everyday. They need more rest than anybody to allow their body's to catch up to the work their arms are doing. Proof is always in the pudding. So all you really have to do is look at the injuries they've had an that'll answer all doubt about what I'm saying. I'm not saying it's only LC either. There seems to be a lot doing it.

First off, you have no clue who I am. My kid graduated, but I'm still a fan. Secondly, the schedule ended at the state tourney last year, no ball for June or July, starting a fall schedule in September and October, no throwing again for November or December, then picked it up in January. If you would like, there are articles from doctors (Kremcheck, etc.) that say taking 2 months off after a season is perfect......

Under this coaching staff 1 tommy john surgery, josh cantrell that is it. 1 in 6 or 7 years, don't seem like a rash of injuries to me.

You may want to redo your math. I'm going back to when feltner took over, and LC has had double the national average of injuries.

Anything you say. I would love to see an article where a doctor says a teenage kid should throw 10 months out of the year?

I am too, if one is double the national average then you are correct.

Noticed where JC had a pitcher throw a complete game. Wonder why baseball man hadn't posted anything about that?

Because the LC kid has lost about a year of pitching due to arm problems. But that seems to be the pattern for LC.

Umm, no he hasn't. He has pitched his freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior season. So, where am I missing this clueless suggestion of yours? There's no "pattern" of anything....other than winning.

I am not saying anything about your coach or program buy before you continue sticking your foot in your mouth you need to check your facts. He did not pitch the last half of his sophomore year or summer ball due to problem with his arm. He a great kid and good pitcher.

I have no dog in this fight, but Travis Feltner is the best thing that happened to the Lawrence Co. program. He's one of the best coaches in the mountains, or the state for that matter. For someone to criticize him or Lawrence co. sounds like jealousy.

I agree with you on about 80 % what you said. I think they are areas of concern with Coach Feltner like his attitude toward kids playing other sports and the arm injury concerns. But not involved enough to know if he has any responsibility for these situation. It may be the kids do not want to play other sports and the injuries are just back luck.
