Nice bounce back for Bulldogs.

I heard on the radio Hazard held Williams to 106 yards on 30 carries. But they give up a couple scores on pass plays.
Good bounce back win for hazard and a tough loss for Letcher.

Congratulations Hazard :Cheerlead This was a big win in my book.

Hazard should be tough by playoffs

^ I hope so.. A lot better showing this week.

Hazard has an excellent coaching staff. They will get progressively better through out the year.

Lcc falling to another 1a school! Embarrassing

Congrats Hazard!! Good win

Letcher Central is steadily improving under Coach Holcomb.

This is bad news for Letcher IMHO.

Nice bounce back victory for Hazard.

Hazard had another kid go down. I heard he may return in a few weeks.

I don't see the improvement in losing back to back games to 1A schools. seems like taking a step back to me. I expected Letcher to come out of the gates strong this year , but it ain't happening.

Letcher will be fine. Should be a good District Race.

When a 5A school schedules back to back 1A schools there's not much confidence in the program.

Year-in and year-out, Pikeville and Hazard are far from your "typical" Class A programs.
Anyone who knows anything about mountain football knows that neither of those two teams are EVER considered cupcakes, and Letcher traveled to both.
Holcomb will be fine. He's forgotten more football than most pretenders on here will ever "think" they know.

I would have rather saw them win last week as that is a true barometer of how they should do in 1a.

Well, yes, teams prefer winning over losing. Has Labor Day been renamed to State-the-Obvious Day? I missed that email.
In the long run, however, even losses to quality opponents are preferable to wins over cupcakes, yes? The fact is, in eastern Kentucky, most (not all, but most) of the best teams are in Classes A, AA and AAA. In order to schedule a quality opponent out-of-region within a couple hours' drive, teams in the larger classes have little choice but to "play down" in class.
I merely responded to someone who stated that scheduling two back-to-back road games against Pikeville and Hazard suggests a "lack of confidence" in the program, and to that I say "baloney."
Anyone who considers two consecutive road trips to Pikeville and Hazard "walks in the park" needs to start breaking those Oxy's in half.

That's what I wanted to say without hurting feelings

Still a large 5A lost to a small 1A

As far as email goes depends if it with through Hillary Clinton.
Schedule back to back small 1A schools is Bologna and you need to lay of the oxy's to think its ok to schedule litte alone loose to two small schools. Johnson central was needing games. I bet belfry would play as well as Corbin. Can't beat those schools at 5A so play 1A schools. I guess this schedule is an upgrade from 1A schools like berea and a weak 3A school school like McCreary central from last year

Like Saturday-morning play-calling, scheduling is a much simpler task on an arbitrary message board than it actually proves to be in real life. But of course, reality is often lost on some, even with the half-oxy's.
Unlike myself, you seem to be a fervent Letcher supporter, so if you find your own coach's efforts/outcomes unsatisfactory, you Letcher folks clearly know how to clean your own house (over and over and over again). If you wanna burn down your own single-wide, who am I to stop you?
As a long-long time HS football follower in EKY, though, I simply disagree with the original assertion that playing back-to-back road games at Pikeville and Hazard should be deemed "aiming low" from any informed, coherent or lucid perspective.
I do, however, appreciate and respect those long-time, multi-championship coaches like Mike Holcomb who continue to endure the grind amid all this nonsensical jabber and spittle from the cheap seats. He's clearly a better man than I.

1A to 6A means nothing.. Each team puts 11 kids on the field. The bigger schools should have more kids and depth.. But Pikeville and Hazard are usually very good teams and that's why bigger schools play them.

Holcomb is realistic, knowing he has to schedule some quality games versus opponents of different styles to build his team up some. As another poster said, losses against quality opponents are preferable than wins over easily overmatched teams (such as Berea, etc). As for the scheduling, while Johnson Central was needing games, my understanding is they want home and home guarantees. What does 2016 look like for LCC? Maybe no dates worked? It's much more complicated than just call and schedule. You are too hung up on the 1A vs 5A thing.
