Youth League Football
#1
I have been wondering about something's. I have been recently tuning into Little tykes (series about youth league football program in Texas) and wondered what the thoughts of others are on this, that have seen it? I for one, started in 5th grade playing youth league football. I blossomed into having a decent/normal high school career but later in my playing days experienced concussions more and more. I think that the age limits are ok but it brings a lot to attention watching these kids. It seems that there is no weight limits for the kids and I believe hitting distances are way to long in practice drills. But, with that being said. Does this type of league translate into premiere high school athletics as we have all come to know from Texas? Is this highly competitive nature being taught at a young age (verbally and physically) the most beneficial for kids later on? I have 2 boys and they are still young enough to not worry about this for now but later down the road, I hope they will want to experience the game and get all the positives that I did from it. Just wondering if starting them young or old makes a difference on their high school career. I know that it of course teaches them more and nothing hurts with gaining more experience but sometimes it comes down to you either got it or you don't. How are other programs and league across the state compared to this? Does belfry's youth league program run to this manner or highlands? Do you think kids and programs will watch this across the country and change the way they operate? Just curious to hear peoples thoughts on the whole process of how they do it in Texas and we do it in Kentucky. What's the pros and cons on your high school career?

Most coaches are trained to teach heads up tackling where they tackle with their body and keep your head up.
