Why do YOU love High School Football so much?

So let's hear it.

Why do YOU love high school football so much????

Granny Bear is gonna have a different answer than Strikeout King
Stardust is gonna have a different answer than RIUTG

We all come to this site, talk trash year round... everybody expects their team to win the state title, go 15-0 every season and have the entire senior class play at a D-1 level school.

But we all know that's not real life. Some teams are lucky to win 1-2 games per season. But their community still comes out on Friday night to support their team. Do those magical hours on Friday night's really mean that much to so many people? We all know people who bring up their HS playing days. Like that one time they sacked Tim Couch when he played at Leslie County. Or that time they caught the game winning pass against their rival school...

Its just the atmosphere, the sounds of the pads popping, the fun we have on here, and just being with friends that share the same passion for the game.

To me HS football is the purest form of the sport. College football might have the massive crowds and insane atmospheres and the NFL may have the elite level athletes but neither of them will ever top High School in my book. For colleges and the NFL it's more of a business, I consider a college player a pro player, most of them are receiving at least a scholarship for their time and will receive monetary compensation in the future.

At the High School level it feels more about pride in the community, the fan base usually knows each other and in some places that local high school team may be the only thing the community has going for it. It's just a special feeling to me.

Oh this is spot on!!!

High school football is definitely sports at its' purest form before the money, agents and greed muddy the waters. It teaches kids how to be a part of something bigger than they are, and how to trust and depend on others and be the kind of person that others will trust and depend on you. They learn life lessons at this time, and if you're lucky enough to have a quality coach like HC does, then this could help with their future no matter if it's military, management or laborer.

It's also a time for the community to come together for a common cause. The best way to make a friend is to have a common enemy.

And it's FUN!!!!! Win lose or draw!! Watching an action packed football game where the kids are giving it their best efforts, seeing the result of that effort then supporting them, bandaging them, feeding them, etc.......just to do it all again the next Friday night.

God, I wish football season was 10 months long!!!!

I agree with these statements and that is why I am so heartbroken right now. Selfish people destroyed what should have been the best year in my schools history ending a chance to pull the community together and create a building block for future years. Don't ask why I don't want this thread to turn into an argument over transfers (out for us)

Because it really matters to the players unlike the next levels. This makes the atmosphere a frenzy.

Because once you've put on the uniform of the Mighty Whitley County Colonels, nothing else satisfies you.

It's a peacekeeping measure. Were it not for the ability to settle disputes on the football field, there are warlike communities that would otherwise dispatch marauding bands of hooligans to vandalize each others' towns on Friday nights.

Maybe that happens anyway.

Because it is not corrupted by BIG MONEY!
