Question for coaches!
#1
When do you take the blame for lack of having a team prepared for game or game plan? Allowing players to continue to play for taking bad shots not playing defense, Do most coaches tell our children they have rolls on their team and explain there rolls? And looks like with the way the refs are calling the game this year coaches would play more zone. Last thing and I will get off here and read your replies, let's say you have a kid he or she might be the best player or worst but, he or she quits team after game because of not getting ball, mad at coaches, and other players whatever he or she quits do you welcome him or her back with open arms like he or she never left?

Just wondering,

Thank you and Welcome

Little Johnny not getting the playing time you think he should?

Once they quit...I believe it should be up to the coach. All cases are different. We should never let our kids quit anything.

Kids have no basketball IQ anymore and it is because they do not play enough or they play AAU for their daddy/uncle/people who think they know basketball and do not.

Numbers are also down in this region and part of the state because parents and kids will not accept defined roles and are not willing to sacrifice or put in the work it takes to be a basketball player.

The football basketball argument and rift is getting bigger too.

Football might be a little harder on the body but it is an easy sport to play for a season.

Games are 1 night a week and that night is defined, Friday, practices are after school, no practice on holidays unless you make them semifinals, no practice on weekends, and you get your entire weekend free. It is a 5 day a week sport for the players.

Basketball is 7, plus almost every holiday in the winter.

Add to the fact that free boards like this let people bitch and moan for free, yeah I call out some coaches.

SO to answer your question, sometimes a coach has to go with what he/she has and play with it. Some coaches do not go get kids from Canada/Texas/New York/ other school in the area. Sometimes they don't win games and put up with stuff they wouldn't normally, say a parent like you for example, but they have no choice in the matter.

Region,
If it wasnt for Daddies and Uncles coaching AAU or the lower levels of sports, there wouldnt be any teams. Better be glad there are some out there willing to devote their time and money regardless if they know squat about the game. The school boards sure dont care if the younger kids play or not at most places.

You are correct, and I truly appreciate those that do it for the right reason.

I do not appreciate those that do it for to get the glory and credit for wins at a meaningless level, to control the competition their kid or family member gets, or to just control kids period.

Do it for the love of your child, love of your school, or the love of the game.

We have people in the 15th who coach kids just to steer them away from or to other programs, to flat out control little league programs, do it because of the power it gives them over kids or a community, or only coach when it makes them look good.

I absolutely cannot stand those people.

Yes remember these are kids. The kid should ask the team and coach for forgiveness.not the parents:poker face:

I agree Region. There are a lot of people in the 14th Region that do the same type of thing. I hate coaching my kid and have coached at all levels of sports. I try to treat my kid just like anyone else on the team. He probably gets treated a lot worse. If I didnt coach, there isnt many others going to do it and devote their time. The ones that do devote a lot of time are doing it for the wrong reasons like you stated as well. Tough situations at times.

My little Johnny is it was just something I seen at game and was just wanting and maybe hoping that the coaches at that school my son or daughter is at. Didnt need an answer like that. But I accept it.

Then I apologize. Usually when someone starts a thread like this it is because their child isn't getting the playing time they think they should.

Quitting is usually an emotional, spurt of the moment decision. Our high school coach used to give the kid that quit a 48 hour cooling off period. After 48 hours if they still wanted to quit then there was no returning. But more times than not the student athletes returned to the team before the 48 hour timeline.

I don't envy coaches that are forced to play a particular player over more talented players. It happens all the time, and you know the coaches are miserable when they aren't able to put their best players on the floor.

Sometimes it's big money contributors, sometimes it's in-school politics. Rarely is it blatant favortism on the coach's part. They want to win too badly to do that.

Small town politics effects coaches terribly. High school coaches should concentrate on winning, player development, and player promotion to the next level, and all too often small town politics hampers all three. Which is pathetic.

That's what's wrong with our world today!

So what are these parents, coaches, staff, and etc teaching our kids? That mommy or daddy papaw or granny can throw a fit give athletic department more money or blackmail or whatever so there kid can play. It's just wrong!
