Week One 13th Region Player Rankings
1. Tyler âChipâ McDaniel, Junior â Clay County Tigers
- McDaniel showed why he is the best player in the region, igniting his team in the second half on his way to a 22-point effort against the South Laurel Cardinals last week. Chipâs play was highlighted by a 4-point play, seemingly putting away the Cardinals. Not only is he talented, but he may be the smartest basketball player in the region.
2. Jordan Fox, Senior â Jackson County Generals
- The Army commit opened the season with an impressive game against Corbin with a 31-point effort in the loss. He followed that up by leading his team to a 27-point win over Bell Co. Fox is the most talented player in the region, and if he can lead his team to more wins, he has the best shot at surpassing McDaniel as the top player.
3. Zac Baxter, Junior â South Laurel Cardinals
- Baxter falls one spot in this weekâs rankings, but only because of Foxâs superb play. Baxter missed the first two games of the season, but led the Cardinals to their first win on Saturday with a 63-43 win over Estill County. Baxter is a pure scorer and could lead the region in points per game this season.

Thanks, brother. Come see us again soon.
I'll be covering either M'boro vs. Jackson tomorrow or Rockcastle vs. B'ville. I know I'll definitely be at the Clay vs. North game on Friday.

I've been thinking about going to the Clay game Tues if the weather cooperates.

That will definitely be the game of the week. I think Clay will pull it out, but Corbin plays extremely hard and will keep it close.
I'll be at the UK game, so I won't be able to go. I'm not sad about that, though.

No. Barger is at No. 4. I have a surprise player at No. 5. Think you can guess who it is? You can click on the link to see the full list - 1-15.

Not a bad list. A guy to watch out for is Blake Smith from Clay. He's 6'2 with mad hops with d1 talent.

McDaniels is a very nice player. Until someone steps up and beats him(which will be very tough considering his surrounding cast) I'll concede him top player honors. Fox is the best player in the region, but can't claim the spot until he beats him. End of debate. Baxter shoots ever time he touches the ball and yes you will score like that, but no way he is better than Barger. Barger goes 110 percent on both ends and does whatever it takes to win.

Smith is very athletic. We'll be doing a feature on Smith, Wolfe, and Farmer sometime this season.

McDaniel just does so much more than score for his team. I think Fox is the best overall talent, though. As long as Clay stays on top and McDaniel continued to play well, he'll probably stay in the top spot.
Baxter may shoot a lot, but he is a pure scorer. His ability with the ball is unbelievable and his size helps him once he gets in the lane.
Barger could easily move up higher. I love his game and his passion. I think KC has a legitimate shot to win the region.
Thanks for the feedback!

How can Baxter be number 3 when he's not played this year this is 2013/2014 not 2012/2013

He has played this year. He sat out their first two games, but he is back. I think he is the 3rd best player in the region, when he is on his game. Will it stay that way? I'm not sure. But, for now, that is where we have him.
Be sure to check out our new rankings this coming Sunday.

Baxter has the most college upside

Jordan Fox (Jackson Co.) probably has more college upside than Baxter. He's a stronger player and more athletic. He has already committed to Army.

A couple of names to watch for in the 13th Region:
Donald Collett, Pineville - Collett is averaging just over 21 ppg this season.
Donnie Foister, M'boro - Foister scored 33 points against Barbourville, including 8 threes.
Corey Shelton, W'burg - Shelton scored 28 against Lynn Camp.
Blake Smith, Clay - Smith is an athletic guard who plays lock down D.
Wes Wolfe, Clay - Wolfe is another athletic guard for Clay, who gets to the rim with ease.
Who am I missing? I'd love to hear your feedback.
