Congrats to the Panthers & good luck on the season. #71 for Pikeville lived in the backfield & #22 was laying the wood all game on D.
I agree with what someone else said, once Pikeville got away from the pass and back to the ground and pound it was a different game.
Prestonsburg looked out of shape bad in the second half. I have never seen so many players cramping for the Blackcats.
Lots of little things to work on this week. You boys need to dig deep or it will be a long season.

^Tried pulling a Lawrence County move to cheat and rest, however the Cats must not have mastered the skill as they wound up on the losing side where LC won their contest.
All fun and games don't get upset.
Congrats to both teams on a hard fault battle. Both will make some noise in their regions come playoffs.

Huge win! Zero points for Pburg in the 2nd half was a surprise. Great job Pikeville!

Fixing to watch this one now.

Love the uniforms P-Burg has on.

Both teams seem to be a little "nervous" or maybe trying to hard early.
Drop balls and fumbles and a lot of miss tackles.

#1 And # 40 has started taking this one over as of now.
14-3 at this point P-Burg.
#33 plays really hard and seems to be around the ball a lot on defense and he has shown that he has good speed.
The punt return was nice.

Pikeville looks really fast on the VHS I am watching.
Can't wait to see if the speed looks as fast next week when I see them in person.
#13 for the panthers looks like he has an extra gear.

Loves the weight room and a year in it helped him. 2 more in it and could be scary good.

Estep is a nice looking player..

Hall seems to be a little above the rest of the guys on the field, at least he has in the 2nd half.

Coming back from down 18-0 to win over Fairview in the regional championship in 2011, coming from behind vs. Raceland in the playoffs last year (and reversing a 40-pt. loss earlier in the year), and last night...Exciting times for PHS football and things are only going to continue to get better.IMO that all comes from the top. When your coach stays on a steady, even keal, at all times then your players will remain calm no matter what the odds are. That is what Coach Mac brings to the table. One thing about this team. They NEVER give up! THAT'S PIKEVILLE FOOTBALL BOYS AND GIRLS!inglepar

Pikeville looked like a different team compared to the way they played in the first half.
P-Burg has some good young players to build on. I think they will be a lot better then they were this week, by the time the season ends.

He will without hesitation lay the wood on defense too.

Seeing an out-of-shape Blackcat team is a brand new experience for this fan. Players who weren't cramping in the second half -I hope- were simply dogging it or being lazy, because if they were hitting a physical wall, it'll be 4-5 games in before they get into game shape !!
If Coach D. is going to keep the same offense that the Cats have played over the past few years, someone other than Frasure will need to learn how to run pass patterns and, more importantly, when and what to do when the QB is run out of the pocket. There's more to it than jogging toward the QB while waving your arms !
Someone mentioned the "illegal man down field" in the first half shouldn't have been called. Actually it wasn't even a difficult call to make. The screen pass was actually completed 2 yds past the LOS. He had 2 blockers 4-5 yds ahead of him when he caught it. It was a penalty as soon as the ball was thrown past the LOS by RULE. This is why screens must be completed short of the line.
Pikeville played very consistently all night and never got down over the turnovers in the first half, nor the last second 1st half P-burg score. Hall is a very good RB. The Panthers have it going on this year !!

We all knew after last season that the 2013 season would be a struggle. Then after losing Anderson and Marcum that made it even tougher. We have numbers but lets be honest, the talent level isn't what it has been in recent years. Next year will be better with a large sr. class that will have 2+ years of experience at the varsity level however the talented is still questionable. With that said we will pick up our first win tomorrow night at the rock.

One lose and everyone is questioning the conditioning and talent level. The most talented team P-burg has ever had was two seasons ago and we all saw how that turned out. If talnet is divisive or arrogant, then it is harmful to the team and that was an issue for the last two years.
As far as conditioning, I saw both teams have players leave the game due to cramping, which by the way has nothing to do with physical conditioning and more with pre game fluid intake and diet.
I see this team getting better each week. For fans, be patient.

Absolutely...the raw talent at the skill positions isn't what it has been. And yes, in the future experience will make up for some of that.
But yet recognizing this makes one wonder whether the same pass-centric offense -right now- is the best way to move the ball. A passing offense depends on skilled receivers and an accurate passer, obviously. If the talent level present is insufficient to execute the same P-burg offense of the past few years, shouldn't it be modified a bit to take some pressure off those skill positions ?
Jarrell is a pretty good QB, imo, but he was left hanging FAR too much Friday. Anytime the QB if forced to drift in the backfield >4 secs (though it says good things about the pass blocking) and still have nowhere to throw, there's a real problem. It happened all night and Jarrell won't survive the season if it continues.
There are some GOOD things to take from Friday. The defense, when it wasn't gassed/cramping, looked MARKEDLY better than it did this time last year. Frasure looked good running the ball and had good blocking in the first half.

I respectfully disagree about that being the most talented PBurg team recently. In my opinion, the 2009 13-1 State Semifinalist's were much better. Burchett was having a lights out year, McKinney and Griffith combined for a million tackles, Josh Craynon had 5 interceptions, and everyone was a threat to score.

Mountain Pride the 09 team was very talented but they played together every play unlike the 2011 team. I guess I should have said most talented with a losing record.
