Rosters during broadcast
#1
While watching the game on TV and/or listening to the games on the radio, I noticed a lot where the guys doing the games do not have a updated roster.

Would it benefit everyone if the schools made sure the guys doing the games had the correct roster?

Isn't that the truth!! Nothing more aggravating than hearing the wrong name called when you know who it really is.

Part of the problem is that the radio stations either email in July wanting a copy. Or they email the AD during the season, and the AD has the initial roster that was put in the program in July. All sorts of things change during the season. Players quit. Linemen move to tight end and visa versa. Jerseys get ripped/torn/misplaced. A roster that was created in July could very easily have errors come October. Best to get an updated roster the week of the game. Of course, that would require the radio personalities having a decent relationship with the team, and getting a coach to respond to an email during the season Smile

Generally speaking, the radio station following a certain team will know the roster or will have an updated roster. If they are worth their salt they should know the team from year to year. Also they should have built relationships over the years with opposing radio stations or even opposing coaches and can get rosters that way. Of course sometimes you deal with moron coach who thinks that you may gain some knowledge from a meat roster, or even a jerk radio guy. One thing is for sure never ever trust a roster on the KHSAA site, most inaccurate stuff you can ever find!!
