11-1 overall (9-0 conference)
4 “swing” games

Analysis
I really like Cal this year. They return a butt load of starters, and with USC losing so much talent last season, I think Cal is the favorite to win the Pac 10.…

Marshawn Lynch is a legit Heisman candidate. I’d have him in my top 5, the kid can flat run….

Nate Longshore (their starting QB), broke his leg in the first game last season, and it set them back offensively. With a healthy Longshore, they can easily go undefeated…

Cal will surprise some people, and very easily could be in the National Championship game in January….

USC

Last season: 12-1 (lost to Texas 41-38 in Rose Bowl)

# of returning starters: 10 (4 offense, 6 defense)

Nov. 11 Oregon W

Nov. 18 California L

Nov. 25 Notre Dame L

Dec. 2 UCLA W

10-2 overall (8-1 conference)
6 “swing” games

Analysis
USC will still be a very good team, but they aren’t going to be perfect that they were in past seasons….

Dwayne Jarrett is going to have to be an offensive leader, cause this team has inexperience all over the field….

Pete Carroll is a solid coach, but when you can recruit the kids he does, it doesn’t take a lot of coaching in all honesty…

USC gets Cal and Notre Dame at home, but they’ll lose both. Don’t be shocked if Arkansas beats them the first game of the season either…..

Oregon
Head Coach: Mike Bellotti (90-42 overall)

Last Season: 10-2 (lost to Oklahoma 17-14 in Holiday Bowl)

Nov. 4 Washington W

Nov. 11 at USC L

Nov. 18 Arizona W

Nov. 25 at Oregon St. W

9-3 overall (6-3 conference)
6 “swing” games

Analysis
Oregon is a good program. Bellotti has done a very solid job getting kids to play hard, and his offense was actually solid last year despite numerous injuries….

Oregon has a huge beef when they didn’t make the BCS last year (I thought they deserved a slot over Ohio St. in all honesty), but they didn’t back it up losing to Oklahoma in the bowl…

Finding a QB and getting defensive replacements will be a top priority for the Ducks, I think they’ll be able to do so…

Oregon isn’t going to contend for the Pac 10 crown again this year, but they’ll find themselves in the Sun Bowl….

Arizona
Head Coach: Mike Stoops (6-16 overall)

Last season: 3-8 (no bowl)

# of returning starters: 17 (8 offense, 9 defense)

Returning Starters:
Passing: Willie Tuitama (82-142, 1105 yards, 9 TD, 5 INT)

Sept. 9 at LSU L

Sept. 16 Stephen F. Austin W

Sept. 23 USC L

Sept. 30 Washington W

Oct. 7 at UCLA W

Oct. 14 at Stanford W

Oct. 21 Oregon St. W

Nov. 4 at Washington St. L

Nov. 11 California L

Nov. 18 at Oregon L

Nov. 25 Arizona St. W

7-5 overall (5-4 overall)
6 “swing” games

Analysis
Arizona has struggled in Mike Stoops first two seasons, but that will end this year. They return a large amount of starters, and anyone with the last name Stoops can coach….

Arizona could be a sleeper to compete for the Pac 10 crown. While it’s a long shot this year, watch out next year….

They were actually hurt bad last year with injuries, and that includes the game where they killed UCLA 52-14, if they can stay healthy, they could get more than 7 wins…

This is the year Zona breaks out and makes a bowl game for the first time under Stoops….

Arizona St.
Head Coach: Dirk Koetter (59-38 overall)

Last season: 7-5 (beat Rutgers 45-40 in Insight Bowl)

# of returning starters: 12 (8 offense, 4 defense)

Returning Leaders:
Passing: Rudy Carpenter (156-228, 2273 yards, 17 TD, 2 INT)

Rushing: Keagan Herring (158 att, 917 yards)

Receiving: Rudy Burgess (59 rec, 655 yards)

Tackles: Zach Catanese (107)

Sacks: Zach Catanese (2)

Interceptions: Josh Barrett (1)

Schedule/Projected W-L Record
Aug. 31 Northern Arizona W

Sept. 9 Nevada W

Sept. 16 at Colorado L

Sept. 23 at California L

Sept. 30 Oregon W

Oct. 14 at USC L

Oct. 21 Stanford W

Oct. 28 at Washington W

Nov. 4 at Oregon St. L

Nov. 11 Washington St. W

Nov. 18 UCLA W

Nov. 25 at Arizona L

7-5 overall (5-4 conference)
5 “swing” games

Analysis
Arizona St. has the best set of QB’s in the nation. Rudy Carpenter and Sam Keller combined for 37 TD’s and only 11 INT’s last season. Even though Carpenter finished the year due to Keller’s injury, look for Keller to start the season…

The offense will be as great (could be the best in the PAC 10), but the defense will be worse than UCLA’s last year, and that will cost them dearly….

Koetter has been mentioned as a coach that better get things done, and that means competition for the conference crown….

Arizona St. will not win the Pac 10 this year, but they should be able to match last year’s record, and with some luck possibly win 8 or 9 games….

UCLA
Head Coach: Karl Dorrell

Last season: 10-2 (beat Northwestern 50-38 in Sun Bowl)

# of returning starters: 12 (6 offense, 6 defense)

Returning Leaders:
Passing: Ben Olson (2-4, 11 Yards, 0 TD, 0 INT)

Rushing: Chris Markey (110 att, 580 yards)

Receiving: Joe Cowan (35 rec, 469 yards)

Tackles: Dennis Keyes (57)

Sacks: Justin Hickman (5.5)

Interceptions: Trey Brown (1)

Schedule/Projected W-L Record
Sept. 2 Utah W

Sept. 9 Rice W

Sept. 23 at Washington W

Sept. 30 Stanford W

Oct. 7 Arizona L

Oct. 14 at Oregon L

Oct. 21 at Notre Dame L

Oct. 28 Washington St. L

Nov. 4 at California L

Nov. 11 Oregon St. W

Nov. 18 at Arizona St. L

Dec. 2 USC L

5-7 overall (3-6 conference)
5 “swing” games

Analysis
UCLA was very fortunate last season. They only lost twice thanks to some miracle comebacks and the offense, an offense in which the three stars (Olson, Drew, Lewis) are gone…

The defense was awful last year (they let up 38 PPG in conference), and it probably will not be much better this year in all honesty…..

Karl Dorrell is a pure offensive coach, and he brings the Pete Carroll laid back approach, and it fit’s the L.A. style perfectly…

UCLA will not come close to last year’s win total, but they could become bowl eligible with some luck. I have them just missing out….
