Joe Louis vs. Helio Gracie for the Heavyweight Boxing Championship
#1
Lets just say that Helio Gracie (founder of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) actually fought Joe Louis for the World Heavyweight Boxing title.

The match would be the same format as a championship boxing match with 15 rounds, 3 minutes per round. Win by Knockout, Technical Knockout, Referee/Corner/Doctor stoppage or Submission.

And let's just say Helio Gracie submitted Joe Lous... Think how different the combat sports would be today. Would that be considered the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship?

Even better than that.....

Let's say Bruce Lee (born 1940) challenged Muhammad Ali (born 1942) for the Heavyweight title.

We'll pretend the fight happens in 1967 when both Lee and Ali was in their prime. But Bruce Lee wins by knocking out Ali.

Anderson Silva (born 1975) vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (born 1977). This would have to be at a catch weight with no titles on the line.

Anderson Silva is the best mixed martial artist in the world.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best boxer in the world.

You can imagine the Pay-Per-View buy rates for this fight. Possibly the biggest PPV event in history.

Cain Velasquez (1982) vs. Wladmir Klitschko (1976)

Both are the Heavyweight champion in their sport.... Velazquez (UFC)
Klitschko (Boxing) [WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO & The Ring champion]

Imagine this fight.... The UFC Heavyweight title against 5 boxing titles.

I seen on ESPN where they were talking about a Sugar/Mayweather fight and the what ifs.
Never mind that Sugar was quite a bit bigger, but ever single analyst picked Sugar by a KO or decision, except for one who said itd be a draw.

I know money is a headache sometimes and he puts off bad vibes to certain people, but the guy i remarkable. They always seem to do these what ifs on boxing, but i like Mayweather, and im not sure theres ever been a more dominant boxer. Granted, his competetion hasnt alway been great, but the guys makes people miss better than Ali ever thought about.
Almost 50 wins with no losses and took a fight with a great up and coming fighter thats undefeated for september.

His biggest downfall IMO, is that boxing isnt as big as it once was. With the MMA and other stuff, it just doesnt get the praise it once did, and Money would automatically have an advantage with todays ways of training.

Its always interesting to talk about it though...

Boxing isn't as popular as it once was but the fighters make a heck of alot more money than UFC fighters.

To actually consider your match ups....what are the specific rules? stand up only with or w/o kicks? Anything goes?

If it is hands only, IMO each boxer would win. The Bruce Lee fight would be close though because of his speed but I think Ali would have more power to knock him out.

All the above match-ups would be an MMA style fight.

Rules would be like today's MMA with rounds and time limits.

And yes, I know each fighter trains for their specific sport. But look at the old days in the UFC. Boxing vs. Tae Kwon Do, Jiu-Jitsu vs. Karate, Wrestling vs. Kick-Boxing.

If your gonna be the "Champ" at a combative sport..... you gotta prove it.

If the fights were held in an MMA style fight.

- Helio Gracie vs. Joe Louis (Gracie wins by Submission)
- Bruce Lee vs. Muhammad Ali (Lee wins by Knockout)
- Anderson Silva vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (Silva wins by Knockout)
- Cain Velasquez vs. Wladmir Klitschko (Velasquez wins by Submission)

MMA vs. Boxing.... MMA 4-0

Yes, using MMA rules, then all fights would be won by an MMA fighter.

However, if it were boxing rules, I would be incline to give the wins to all Boxers as well. But, I am on the fence in regards to the Ali/Lee fight.

It would be some interesting match ups.

In '93 & '94, Royce Gracie (born 1966) was the king of the UFC, winning UFC 1, 2 & 4.

In 1994 Evander Holyfield (born 1962) beat Riddick Bowe for the WBA & IBF heavyweight boxing championships.

Can you imagine Royce Gracie vs. Evander Holyfield in a bout to combine to UFC championship with the WBA & IBF heavyweight boxing championships.

Maybe lack of MMA fans???

It's hard for me to believe there are no Boxing or MMA fans on this site that don't wanna discuss this topic.

Judging from when we would post stuff in the "other" Pro forum, not many people commented on MMA and/or boxing.

I myself am a fan of both...
