LAWRENCEBURG – The Collins softball team couldn’t complete a last inning rally, falling to Gallatin County in the first round of the 8th Region Tournament on Monday morning.
The Wildcats topped the Titans 3-2 at Anderson County.
The game was scoreless for the first 2 1/2 innings until Gallatin County tallied twice in the bottom of the third inning.
Bailey Rankin cut the Wildcats’ lead in half when she led off the top of the fourth with a home run to left field for Collins.
Gallatin County (19-1) added another run in the bottom of the fifth, before holding off the Titans’ seventh-inning rally.
With one out in Collins’ last at-bat, Danaria Lewis singled before Janette Hynes hit into a fielder’s choice. Lindsey Ketcham followed with a single to left field before Janette Hynes scored when a ground ball hit by her twin, Janelle, was errantly fielded by Gallatin shortstop Brooke Dossett. However, with runners on first and second Lauren Shepherd hit into a fielder’s choice to end the game.
The Titans’ season ended at 19-20.
