Cincinnati just swept Houston and St. Louis back to back. They are tied for first place in the NL Central. They usually start out pretty good and then fade as the All-Star break draws near. They just signed a former AL All-Star in Joe Mays. Could the pitching hold up? Will everyone stay healthy? Could Cincy make the playoffs for the first time since 1995? Last year at this time they were 15.5 games out of first. I think Krivsky (sp?) really knows what he is doing.

Could they? Yes....
Will they? Probably not....
The Cards are pretty tough, and the Astros will be a better team with Clemens. The Reds' pitching is questionable and though they are playing good now I dont see it staying that way. A wild card is in the realm of possibility though. I wouldn't get my hopes up though.

It would be cool to say we got two good pro teams in our area with the Reds and Bengals, but I doubt if the hitting can keep pounding the ball enough to make-up for the pitching

Well, they swept the Cardinals moving into first in the division for the first time since much earlier in the season. For a while there, the Reds looked to be floundering like they usually do around this time, but they've picked it back up and moved back into first. I dont expect them to win the division, but they are a serious contender for the Wild Card. Astros don't have enough hitting to make a serious run even with the Rocket. I believe it will come down to the Dodgers and Reds for the Wild Card this year.

I say by years end that the Astros will make noise. I still think that the Reds are a fluke. They are playing good now, but the Cards are playing without Pujols. You might say one guy can't win a game for ya, but I say go back earlier in the year and see one of the games against the reds. 3 HR's in one game including the walkoff HR in the 9th. When you have a player like Pujols, the team bases their performance around him. Without him and Edmonds being healthy, they don't have much. Just wait until the Cards are full strength and they will pull away just like every year. The Reds will fall sometime after the All-Star break. I hope I'm completely wrong, but until they prove me wrong, I will continue to say this.

On what basis do you believe that the Astros can make a run?

Astro's are going to need more Than Clemens, Burke just went down with a seperated shoulder.

The Astros have a good team. They are just not playing to their potential imo.

The Reds can make the playoffs. Nobody expected the White Sox to be any good last year and they won the WS. These Reds are much better than the previous teams that fell apart.

The Reds have the 4th best starting pitching era in the majors....they lead the majors in home runs with 88...power on the mound and power at the plate equals a powerful team.

This team will not have the lead in the NL central for too long b/c they cannot finish out a season they will fall apart in July !

Well they've lost 4 in row after winning 8. And imo 4 straight to the bottoms of the NL Central, Chicago and Milwaukee. I hope that they can keep it up but it will be pretty tough b/c the normal teams like the Cards and the Stros are going to start streaking. Hopefully the Redlegs can pull it out!
