Coach Feltner steps down from KCC
#1
What is everyones opinion on this one..
#2
This is a surprise. What happened?
#3
From what I have gathered, all I know is that he wanted to be more of the father type to his children...and if I am correct some parents may have played a role in him resigning as well.
#4
Any word on who will be taking his place? Seems like they just changed coaches a couple of years ago.
#5
No one knows who will be the next coach. They just changed coaches 2 years ago. Once I find out any more information I will let everyone know.

Hate to hear this, he had his teams playing hard and well. I hope this athletic dept. can get a grip on the seemingly neverending coaching changes in the sports teams.

I lived in Knott County for 6+ years and now live in Campbellsville, so I know how things go as far as the athletics and academics in Knott County. I hope for the kids' sake that something gets done to establish some level of competancy(sp?) in the athletic and academic areas, because as of now, they get no respect from anyone outside of the County. I have two children that will grow up there in that County, so I say these things not to down the AD or the Administration, but to encourage change, no matter how it happens.

I saw some games when he coached and the teams looked as if they were in slow motion, no energy at all, that may be what happened. He is a nice guy though.

Typical Knott County bull! :ChairHit:

Feltner is a great coach and deserved better from the parents and the administration. I'd say the real reason he left was because the AD wanted full control of the team. The AD dictated every move the team made. Why? So his son could play. Sure, he's a good ball player, but too inexperienced to be playing in the district tournament. And it showed. Neal couldn't put who he wanted in. His best players sat on the bench.

On another board this is being discussed and basially the same thing is being said. When will the parents of Knott County get some smarts about them and take charge of their kids education? Get rid of the jerks in office somehow, someway.

I thought Coach Feltner was one of the top young coaches in this area. I think he will be coaching somewhere soon enough though, it would be a good hire for a school.

I lived in Knott County for 6+ years and helped coach the football team for a short period, so I know a little about the struggles in that county as far as athletics and more importantly, academics. The kids try their best and work as hard as they know how, but they are just not taught the "right" way to do things. The football program is trying to turn things around, but if they do not hire some more assistants for Coach Beder and Coach Mullins, they will exhaust them and they will move on. As far as their basketball is concerned, they seemed to have things going in the right direction, but the coach was not able to run the team and play the players he wanted to play because of the "higher-ups." A majority of parents in Knott County really do not know what is happening, but sites like this one can only help get discussions started and hopefully promote change. I have my oldest son with me in Campbellsville, but my youngest son and my daughter are with their Mother in Knott County, so I hope that things will change and medicrity will not be the norm much linger.

Knott County could be a powerhouse program again if a commitment is made to the KIDS!!! Bring in a coach who will stay the course and run his own show. No distractions!!!{Parents, adminstration} Support the guy thru the good and bad times and consistency will prevail when the commitment is made. C'mon Knott County...give us a solid hire and get the program back on track!!!!

No change will come until the AD is replaced and/or his son graduates. Whichever comes first.

I've talked to some guys from Knott and they have told me that Feltner had no control over the program. Really sad situation in that county.
