Lets talk about unfair, blatant disregard for rules and respect for the game.
First off, let me say that it was a barn burner of a game. Back and forth scoring and lots of good ball playing.
Then, in all the excitement, with only seconds in the game, Valley has 6 girls on the floor during play, clock is running. All the Pikeville and Valley people are yelling 6 on the floor!!
It takes a while for the refs to realize this. THEN, when they do realize, they decide that it didnt happen. WTF? EVERYONE in the stands was yelling about it, coaches knew and STILL, the refs did not call the T. They even has a side bar meeting about it at the end of the floor, and STILL decided not to call it. Why ? This is what makes people not like refs, and think the rules are a waste of time. Not to mention that in the last 2 secs, the clock started late, giving Valley time to make a last shot, which went in with no time on the clock , it went in and they COUNTED IT? WHAT?? NO TIME ON CLOCK means the game is over!!!!

^ When there were 6 players on the floor, was their any advantage in play for Valley that occurred. If there was no advantage gained, it is within the referees right to make a no-call, which is completely appropriate. If they gained an advantage, i.e. a basket, steal, forced turnover, then by rules this would be interpreted as a technical foul. If not, then there is no requirement for a technical to be called, nor should there have been one. This has nothing to do with people not liking the refs, but it has all to do with people blaming the refs for rules those people do not know themselves. The sidebar would have been to discuss whether there was an advantage gained - NOT to determine it never happened.

Officiating is definitely not easy and I am sure these guys were doing their best. If people want to complain and point fingers they can always go thru KHSAA and get their own officiating license. It sounds like this mix up did not determine the outcome and they just simply did not see 6 players on the court. It is what it is....

Anytime time runs off the clock with 6 players on the floor, an automatic T is called...unless the rules have changed. They were being paid to do a job and one they certainly didn't do well. Of course mistakes are made in every game, but when it's obvious to all watching the game, both sets of fans and even those not involved in the game were yelling that there were 6 on the floor, something is definitely wrong. There were other issues aside from this non call also.

Both teams played very hard. The ball was never in play with 6 players, the ball was handed to the girl inbounding the ball when the 6th player took 2 steps and was off the floor. As far as the clock being held, I did not notice. The last shot was a bang-bang play but BOTH officials counted the basket at the same time. Pikeville was up one with 7 seconds left and missed a bonus free throw. Valley rebounded the ball and called timeout. Rose from Valley pushed the ball up the floor and handed off to Hampton who took one dribble and passed it to Stanley under the basket for a layup. There was not a Pikeville defender within 12 feet of Stanley.

You need to take off the problems with Dorton Tourney. Dorton puts on great tournaments and the refs have nothing to do with the tournament itself. Thats just part of the game.

Let me get this straight. Pikeville is whining about something that did not directly affect the outcome of a game? I know this is a girls basketball topic, but I personally witnessed Pikeville's boys head coach and a couple of school administrators straight up lie to myself, our head coach, and KBA officials face in the process of screwing our guys out of a state championship. With that said, your scenario doesn't sound like there were state title implications on the line so you should consider yourselves lucky. Quit whining and play basketball.

Both teams play hard, any time Virgie/Valley and Pikeville go at it, there is always something exciting. Look like it is going to be an Exciting Girls Basketball Season this year. By the way Coach Davis always puts on a great tourney

Not sure how you can say it didn't affect the outcome. If the T had been assessed as it should have been, P'ville on the line plus possession with only a few seconds left. As far as the boys team comment, sounds to me like you're the one whining...or should I say still whining...that was months ago. P'ville was the best team down there and should have come home with the trophy...like it or not. You're the one that needs to quit whining...or at least go do it on the boys page.

You are quick to judge apples and oranges. This girls team is a class act. Its not boys basketball or their situation. Dont descriminate against other Pikeville teams for the sins of the few. Ill quit whining when you quit judging

Apples and oranges? Yes. But fruit is fruit and Pikeville is still Pikeville. It is what it is. As an outsider looking in, Pikeville will forever have an asterisk next to it in my book and a lot of others as well.

From what I saw, Kammerer (out of Louisville) was the best team there. But like Pikeville, their coaches made some stupid decisions as well and were also disqualified from the tournament. The best legitimate (non-cheating) team was probably Knox County in all honesty. They would have beaten Holmes 7 or 8 times out of 10 in my opinion. From what I heard through the grapevine, your head coach was canned, as he should have been. Am I right about that? It's alright to live in the gray area, but when it comes to the black and white of the rule books, there is NO place in athletics for cheating...let alone the middle school level. In all seriousness, I hope you all bounce back from it. It hurts the kids more than anything.

I'll agree with u on 2 points...Knox did look good and it did hurt the kids. I'm not putting all the blame on p'ville's coach rhough. From what I heard, there was "miscommunication" between he and a school official. I understand that the coach is no longer there, but I don't know the terms. Even if he was "canned" as you put it, things may not always be as they appear. I'm sure they will bounce back as they still have alot of talent in their 8th graders. Back to the girls, I look for the Lady Panthers to avenge their "losses" in this tourney in the regular season...time will tell. Valley started strong but couldn't finish in the championship. They ate a talented group but very young. Looking forward to watching some great games this season.

Valley is without a doubt the youngest team in the county. They start one 7th grader,four 6th graders and their first sub is a 4th grader. They do not have an 8th grader on their roster. It is still early and all of the teams will get better. Pikeville,Dorton and Belfry are still the teams to beat.

I agree, Valley has a bright future with several very talented girls. Rowe will be the player to watch, only a 4th grader. Wright and Honaker from Dorton had solid games and Caudill from Pikeville was putting up some nice stats. Won't surprise me to see her with some significant playing time for Spears HS team this season. What happened at Neon? From what I remember, MJP has had strong teams for years.
