13th Region in the KBA
-
Ouch!
-
The 13th region went 4-17 in pool play in the KBA state tournament. Then it was 3-7 in the tournament. 2 of the 7 total wins were against other 13th region teams.
-
Harlan County had the best showing at 4-2 and a quarter-final appearance. The Black Bears went 26-2 on the summer. Their JV team won the tournament.
-
North Laurel did manage to win the losers bracket (Silver) tournament
-
What kind of season can the 13th region fans expect?

Here are a couple of articles about the KBA.....

Last time i checked weve never been known as a powerhouse bball region.
No surprise here.

I remember a time in the early to mid 90's when Clay Co., Harlan, and Corbin all three had top 10 to 15 teams in the state.

Yes, but out of all those teams, Clay was the only one to win a state.
Theyve had several dominant region teams, but never been a state powerhouse.
Same with Corbin.

That's not quite accurate. In the early 90s the 13 region was a great. In 94 both Corbin and Harlan were #1 at different times of the year in both the LCJ and the LHL. In the mid and late 80s Clay Co had the best program in the state.

Time changes things, and teams evolve; sometimes toward better and sometimes worse.
I watched a ton of games at AAU but made specific plans to be at the PSP game. I've always heard about that basketball team, and was thrilled to finally be able to see them play.

It was disappointing. I don't want to ruffle feathers here, but I couldn't believe how that team played! Guess they are rebuilding or something.

lol, while the 13th had some great teams in the 90s which i agree with, please tell me who in the 13th region has won a state championship since Clay did in the late 80s?

And dont say South, they were in the 12th region when they won.

Sometimes these teams have great teams for a year or two, but its fizzled out.
Clay is definitely not the same Clay and you could say the exact same about Corbin.
I dont know what happened over the years but basketball in the 13th isnt no where as good as it use to be.

Harlan Co., South Laurel, Clay Co. and North Laurel should be the top 4.

With Jones coming back along with his team, it would be hard to go against harlan co.

North Laurel and Clay Co. will be very good next season. I believe both of them had a slight edge on Harlan Co. last year inside. I have heard several people say that the Caldwell kid has really improved his game for Harlan Co. I loved to watch him play last year becasue he played with so much heart. His improvement + solid guard play could be what Harlan Co. needs to get out of the 13th next season.

harlan will have a good team north will be big and pineville will be big but clay will be ok but they won't have know size and they last 4 of there top 7 but the year befor they last 5 of there top 7 but i look for the 13th to have some good games to watch this year with fox coming back to jackson i think that the 49th will be fun to watch because it will be seeded this year so every game counts.....

Jackson County also picked up the Wagers kid from Clay so the question for Clay will be inside. They should have one of the top backcourts in the region....
