It is looking like Matthew Mitchell will lose an assistant to new Tennessee head coach Holly Warlick.

A former Tennessee Lady Vol is returning to join the coaching staff of new women’s basketball head coach Holly Warlick.

Kyra Elzy has decided the leave the staff of SEC-rival Kentucky and will fill one of two assistant openings on UT’s staff, a source familiar with the coaching search told the News Sentinel on Thursday.

The source requested anonymity because the official announcement has not been made.

Warlick, Tennessee’s long-time assistant, was named coach last Wednesday when Pat Summitt stepped down after 38 years to become a head coach emeritus.

At Kentucky, Elzy was the associate head coach on the staff of former UT graduate assistant Matthew Mitchell.
