Boone advances to take on Newport Central Catholic in the finals.
What a run by Lloyd and what a crazy tournament so far! Lloyd crawled back to tie it late in the 3rd 26-26 after being in a hole at the half. Too many missed FTs and threes.

It was such a special season for Lloyd that the Juggernauts did not want it to end.
But Boone County had other ideas and stopped Lloyd’s surprising postseason run with a 50-41 victory in Saturday’s second semifinal of the Ninth Region tournament at Bank of Kentucky Center.

Lloyd won a district championship for the first time in 13 years and upset defending regional champion Dixie Heights in the process, then beat Highlands in the first round of the regional for its first win since 1996. Boone County, in the regional for the sixth time in nine years, was impressed with the Juggernauts’ late-season run.
“They got hot at the right time,” Boone coach Greg McQueary said.
The Rebels had no intention of letting it continue because they believe they can win the region with their band of guards. Boone will play Newport Central Catholic in Sunday’s 1 p.m. final.
“You get there enough, you get a chance to get past it,” McQueary said of Boone’s fourth consecutive regional semifinal appearance. “The big key (in the final) is we got to make shots and we got to rebound. They (the Thoroughbreds) are going to be bigger than we are.”
Boone, with just one starter standing taller than 6 feet, held a bigger Lloyd squad to 34.9 percent shooting (15-for-43) from the floor and outrebounded the Juggernauts, 31-19. Zane McQueary, a 6-6 Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference first-team selection, led all scorers with 18 points and Reenan Palmer pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Boone led by 11 in the second quarter but Lloyd tied it at 26 midway through the third. The Rebels’ responded with a free throw and a basket in transition by McQueary to end the third up by three. McQueary’s jumper early in the fourth and an ensuing free throw completed a 7-0 Boone run to begin the quarter and the Rebels’ lead was back to 10.
“I think the biggest thing is we went on one of those counter runs,” Zane McQueary said.
JaKeith Pitts scored 13 points and had three steals for the Rebels. Boone converted 15 of 20 free-throw attempts and made 11 of 14 from the line in the fourth. Tyler Bray led Lloyd with 11 points and keyed a 9-0 Juggernauts third-quarter run that helped tie the score.
“I think (free throws) were a big factor,” said Zane McQueary, who finished 4-for-5 from the line. Cooper Downs shot 4-for-4 on foul shots and finished with seven points.
Boone made just one three-pointer while concentrating on the drive-and-dish. Lloyd, which relied on the 3-pointer all season, shot 6-for-24 from behind the arc.
“We had a miserable shooting (performance),” Juggernauts coach Mike Key said. “But they saw that if they just competed, good things will happen.”http://nky.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/...303030084/
