Tonight the Cougars were looking to rebound after an emotional loss in the District 13 title game to their rivals Russellville. On Sunday they drew the District 14 champions, Bowling Green, but instead of crying 'Woe is me' the Cougars buckled down and got ready.
Despite giving it everything they had, and then some the Cougars would fall to the region number one team 75-59.
In the first quarter the Cougars and Purples started by prodding each other's defenses. Very quickly it became apparent that the Cougars' press wasn't slowing down Bowling Green, it was actually speeding them up and giving them easy looks at the basket. On the offensive end the normally potent offense of the Cougars got rather open looks at the rim but there appeared to by a lid clamped shut on the basket.
Going into the break the Cougars were down 38-22, and with a circus three point shot at the end of the half by Bowling Green going in, things didn't look too good for Logan County.
Coming out of the break the Cougars ratcheted up the pressure on the ball handlers of the Purples and closed the gap to only 11 but they couldn't get over the hump. They would go into the final quarter of the game down 55-41 and looking for any answers.
They would find it as they came storming back to close the gap to 59-49 with most of the fourth quarter left to play. With the crowd roaring their support and doing everything could short of actually playing, the Cougars were poised to make a miraculous comeback.
But the Purples stubbornly refused to break and held the Cougars at bay throughout the rest of the game. The Cougars would wrap up their season with a 75-59 loss to the Purples in the Region 4 opening round.
