East Ridge vs Belfry 3/3 (15th Region Semi-Finals)

thoughts on this game??

Interesting match-up. Belfry has a fine big man in Messer, and Runyon is also a nice player. Belfry doesn't have a lot of wins, but as I have said, wins at this point mean nothing! Belfry is a very scrappy team and can give E.R. a lot of trouble. I think in order for the Warriors to win, they must have Kosongo play another excellent game, Messer is tough and they need to keep him in check. E.R. must also get Miller some quality looks, and Wolter must have a strong presence to help the offense click. It will be a tough battle, E.R. must bring their best game to win.

East Ridge by 1 in overtime...

Messer is going to be a handful for any big man in the region...Very underrated player...

Key matchup will be whom Mullins guards (I think it will be Runyon). Mullins is a more reliable outside scorer (between him and Runyon, that is) who can draw Runyon out of the paint and limit Belfry's rebounding inside. On the flip side, Runyon is definitely stronger and a better post player overall. If he gets into Mullin's head with some physical play, it could be a long night for Mullins and help even things up inside somewhat. Belfry's PG is quick enough to guard Wolter, but I don't know if he can stay out of foul trouble, and if he goes to the bench for any length of time, they have no one else to really match Wolter's quickness on penetration. I'm going to go with (hurts me to admit this) East Ridge by 7.

The set of Kasongo-Coleman-Thacker-Wolter-Miller was very effective last night. I wouldn't be surprised to see that line up and watch Mullins come off the bench. Wolter will need to play better this game, for those who don't know, he only scored once against Sheldon Clark.

I agree!

I think Wolter's D speaks loudly though.

I want to see ER win for 59th district sake.

The only thing I worry about is Kasongo on Messer, Ray is more talented, but watching both these kids numerous times I've noticed something.

Ray fouls a lot and Messer draw fouls well, this may give Ray trouble down the stretch.

Messer sure is a handful.ER beat Belfry in the season but the anybody but Belfry refs wont be their.Good luck Pirates.Should be a good team from two under rated teams.

I agree. To borrow a line from a certain Sheldon Clark fan "they're 10-17 (or whatever their record is) for a reason!" Confusedhh:

The reason that ER will win this game is not going to be Kasongo but Wolter. Belfry tries to speed you up to create offense when other teams have a dominant big. ER has a solid point guard in Tony however, if he gets in foul trouble it may get interesting, especially if the coach tries to play someone at the point other than Fields. This goes back to playing time at a specific position and coaches should remember if you haven't prepared for all possibilities come tournament time you are going to experience a sitiuation destined for failure. Hope for the best and if things go well ER should win by 10.

Coach, you make a good point. Michael had a positive impact last night, he was low key, didn't get a lot of recognition, but his defense was excellent, and that's what we needed last night on the perimeter. Belfry has some quickness in the back court and E.R. will need solid defense to keep them from getting good looks from the outside and to shut the penetration lanes down. If they can force Belfry to rely solely on the inside game, it will open some different defensive possibilities.

You CAN do win this game ER!!!! Pullin' real hard for you guys!!!!!!!!!! Belfry is definitely beatable, but come mentally and physically prepared, don't take this game too lightly. This tourney is the Warriors tourney to take, but you have got to play like you want it, remember the regular season means nothing, it's a whole new season and Belfry is on the hunt.............
